Tribal Connections (TC), NC’s student government association, began its fall season of gatherings and events with a Canned Food Drive starting August 8, 2016.

Along with planning the semester’s celebrations, TC aims to raise NC’s school spirit.

“We want to have over a thousand students at the dance and increase school spirit. Really we aim to put orange everywhere this year,” TC adviser Nishmin Porbandarwala said.

In addition to planning Homecoming, Taste Of Kennesaw, and Shop With A Warrior, TC supervises the fall Canned Food Drive.

Beginning August 8, first period classes challenged each other to collect the highest number of cans for the Taste Of Kennesaw’s annual charity drive. The winning class will earn a Chick-fil-A breakfast.

“Our goal for the canned food drive is to exceed 10,000 [cans] and of course beat Kennesaw Mountain,” Porbandarwala said.

NC plans to distribute the cans to the homeless after the friendly competition between classes.

TC sparked interest in the upcoming freshman class last year when visiting surrounding middle schools. Along with the rewarding experience of giving back to the community, freshmen earned community service hours for their work.

“They actually came to my middle school last year and they talked to us about it and they told us what benefits we would be getting out of it. I love giving back to the community so I was interested,” freshman Marwa Abusaid said.

Rigorous work and dedication play key roles in the output that TC provides the NC student body. This year, they plan on going further with fresh ideas and newfound energy.
