Bust a Spook: a guide to spooky season
October 23, 2018
Spooky season officially lurks around every corner; neighbors put up their best Halloween decorations, department stores dedicated to Halloween appear in town, and the most popular, most anticipated Halloween movies air for faithful viewers. To create the perfect spooky season that leads to Halloween night, it all lies in the process of preparing with movies, music, food and decorations.
Dramatic Decor
In order to become spooky ready, it all starts with the perfect decorations. To beat neighbors in the race for the best house on the block with the most affordable deals, the hotspot for decorations includes Dollar General, Target, and Walmart. With a widespread assortment of decorations from classic white ghosts to giant inflatables, each store offers a variety of spooky items to choose from. However, the classic jack-o-lantern offers the most enjoyable decoration to create.
“The best decor for Halloween in my opinion are pumpkins. Getting them from a patch and carving them into jack-o-lanterns definitely puts me in the Halloween spirit. It’s the perfect way to get ready for the holiday and the season,” senior Aubrey Stewart said.
Festive Favors
Planning a Halloween party? Papa John’s Pizza offers Halloween-enthusiasts pumpkin shaped pizzas with toppings placed to make a jack-o-lantern face. For desserts, create sweet treats with a bizarre twist to cater to Halloween themes with pretzels, Rice Krispy Treats, and a magic touch of frosting. The snack options reign unlimited with ideas from witch brooms and severed fingers to tiny spiders and pretzel mummies.
Mystic Music and Frightening Films
The Halloween energy relies on an ideal playlist and classic horror films. Movies that send chills down viewers’ spines include: Scream 1,2, and 3, Hush, the classic doll movies Annabelle and Chucky, and IT. The less scary Halloween movies air on Disney, such as the Halloweentown films and Twitches.
Music to set the mood ranges in songs from the authentic “Thriller” by Michael Jackson to “This is Halloween” by Danny Elfman, and “Monster Mash” by Bobby Boris Pickett and the Crypt-Kickers. More modern music also includes “Calling all the Monsters” by China Anne McClain, “Monster” by Rihanna and Eminem, and “Demons” by Imagine Dragons.
With the perfect mix of dramatic decor, festive finger-food, mystic music, and frightening films in the witch’s brew, the creation of the perfect potion for spooky season awaits.
