Small businesses serve as vital community pillars, drawing towns together and creating niche, warm atmospheres that cannot be replicated in corporate environments. The second episode of “Taste of Home” explores the uniqueness of small businesses and their importance to local climates, featuring Honeysuckle Biscuits and Bakery. From donating to in-town facilities to creating a family-friendly environment, the importance of locally-owned trades presents itself through interviews with both the owner and a customer of Honeysuckle, as well as statistics from an NC poll.

NC Standing Ovation presents its final spring musical, “Mamma Mia!” across four performances from Thursday, March 27 to Saturday, March 29. Through upbeat and well-known songs, particularly from the hit pop group ABBA, NC students danced and sang their way across the stage. Transporting audiences to a small Greek island, students fully embodied each character to take their final production of the 2024-2025 school year to the next level.

NC provides myriad clubs and extracurriculars for interested individuals, although certain clubs do not receive the attendance they deserve. From poetry to science to government relations, NC offers several opportunities for students to fill their days with education and inspiration.

Recently, the Major League Baseball (MLB) organization introduced a new program that provides high school baseball players in every state a chance to face off with their local professional teams. Tuesday, March 25, this program provided the NC varsity baseball team (3-5) the opportunity to face Georgia’s Atlanta Braves. In an unexpected match, the Warriors defeated the Braves with dedication and undeniable teamwork.

A fresh recruit on The Chant, junior and journalist Cassidy Lumpkin enthusiastically looks forward to participating in informing her community of real-world ideas and issues while advocating for her voice and others. Her writing journey started early— as a kid she proudly earned the “Most Likely to Become An Author” superlative in fifth grade. Since then, Lumpkin’s writing has expanded to worlds such as fantasy, poetry, research, speeches, and Bible devotionals. Outside of her studies, Lumpkin involves herself in NC Cross Country, Greenhouse Gang, Relay for Life, Beta Club, and her church’s Youth Family, design team, and daycare. An indecisive individual, Lumpkin’s pastimes vary between reading, watching cheesy rom coms, art (especially ceramics at NC), embroidering, listening to music, thrifting, and scrolling to the end of Pinterest. Lumpkin strongly values authenticity, human rights, love, and being unapologetically herself.
