The varsity soccer team played against the Douglas County Tigers on Wednesday, February 11. The excitement for the first game of the season filled the stadium as NC and Douglas County engaged in a close, fast paced game. Ultimately the Warriors ended up victorious, winning 1-0.

NC’s defense fought against any offensive attempt by Douglas County. Sophomore Hamza Nazer scored the long-awaited first goal of the season. “It was very tense until we shot the first goal, the screaming just made me feel like the guys were trying so much harder,” soccer manager junior Gabby Gonzalez said.

“The game went really well, we all played well together and had a lot of chemistry, we all played hard, didn’t give up and we got a clean sheet so we set out on a right foot,” sophomore Jaden Baron stated. When asked about the future season, he said “[it] should be a lot better just based on the first game. Everyone was working so well together, we hope to go as far as state.”

NC’s strikers fought against Douglas County with harmony during the whole game and the midfielders isolated Douglas County from back to front. NC’s victory over Douglas County starts the soccer season with hope and excitement.
