Jameson Jonson is a sophomore, and this is her very first year writing for The Chant, and so far, she is loving every minute of it. She decided to join The Chant to challenge herself along with her writing abilities and explore ways to connect with the NC community. 

When Jameson is not writing for The Chant, you can find her rock climbing with friends; as much as she likes rock climbing, you will never catch her climbing a mountain—she is sticking to indoor climbing. She enjoys traveling to unfamiliar places too, her favorite stay so far was Venice, Italy—other than the week she lost her suitcases at the airport. Hiking is also one of Jameson's favorite pastimes, she has hiked plenty of trails including Red Top Mountain. Jameson sees writing as a creative outlet that she can use to express herself and entertain others in the best way possible.

Approaching March, the color green and other items that represent St. Patricks Day come into play throughout classrooms, along with curated menu items or drinks. Although people may have not educated themselves on the history of St. Patrick, the annual holiday remains widely known. Parades and parties scatter the streets the night of March 17 to celebrate St. Patrick and what he accomplished throughout his lifetime.

The NC HoPe club represented the Hispanic community with several members volunteering at McCall Primary’s Read Across America literacy night to read to young learners. The night consisted of fun reads and exciting activities with K-2 graders to kick off National Reading Month. HoPe members engaged in literacy games and read thrilling books to keep vivid imaginations alive in young readers.

Stereotypes surrounding organ donation have developed over the years and frightened past generations into staying off the registered donation list, but newer generations work toward diminishing the stigma around organ donations. The U.S. continues to see hundreds of names slowly added to the list of donors daily. As the willingness to register as a viable donor increases, the number of organs donated increases to save countless lives.

In the last five years, students have drifted away from pursuing a teaching degree and half of the educators in the field leave after reaching the classroom. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, student behavior, learning and motivation issues have come to light. Unfortunately, the difficulties teachers endured during online learning did not fade away when students returned to school. The issues that surfaced after COVID-19 failed to gain the acknowledgment of school systems, leaving teachers feeling unmotivated and lacking the energy to continue teaching. The dreadful effects of COVID-19 on the educational systems leave educators with a decision: stay or leave the teaching field.

With the holiday break concluded, students received a new set of courses to start the new school year and semester. Students may find the spring semester challenging due to the fast-paced courses within their new classes. The spring semester comes with a heavier workload depending on which courses students choose to take. Finding ways to cope with the stress and the nerves of attending new classes can help students start on the right foot. The new set of courses serves as an opportunity to engage in classes and new friendships rather than sticking with a typical seven-class schedule.

Holidays tend to cause stress and anxiety, especially since the majority of people visit their families for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Although family reminds people of happiness and perfect memories, discomforting emotions may occur. Handling these emotions can seem difficult, but a reminder of certain ways to calm these feelings can remain helpful. While finding solutions to these unwanted feelings may seem impossible, researching and finding what works provides comfort.

The 8 Passengers, a beloved family YouTube channel that posts wholesome family vlogs and content, recently became relevant in a negative light. Due to the mother of six, Ruby Franke, abusing her two youngest children over the past few years, she currently faces charges for the accusations. The media has bashed Franke and her business partner Jodi Hilderbrant for the abuse accusations. Franke’s son escaped from the unhealthy household and ran to the closest house, along with calling the authorities to try and save himself from Franke’s abuse. Her five other children endured the abuse for years behind closed doors, altering the familys media reputation.
