My name’s Sydney Dyke and I am a photographer for the The Chant. I love sweaters, candles, holidays, books, food, animals, colorguard, and sweet tea. I’m excited to be a part of the newspaper and can’t wait to start the journey of this semester.

On Friday, December 12th, reporter Anabel Prince brought various delights with peppermint ingredients mixed into them for her and the newspaper staff to taste. The treats used in the experiment were peppermint green tea, peppermint peeps, peppermint milano slices, peppermint cookies, peppermint bark, and peppermint chocolate hershey kisses. While the students gobbled up the delicious treats, Anabel took notes on the taste and decided whether she loved or hated the edible items. “Out of all the food, the hershey kisses were my favorite,” senior photographer Morgan White commented.

Chamber orchestra practices in the theater during 3rd period for their holiday concert tonight which will include the chamber, concert, and freshman classes. Each level will perform various pieces of music to get into the holiday spirit. The free event starts at 7 PM, followed by a dessert reception that requires a $7 donation to participate. The reception is a great way to socialize and for the orchestra to raise money for their program.

Outside of NCG, Acworth's most popular theater, people of all ages gather to wait in line to see Mockingjay. On Friday, November 21st, NCG opened their doors for the premiere of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part I. The film included harmonized singing, dramatic music, lots of fire, arrows, a love triangle, and intense scenes. “The movie was so great! I think it stayed pretty close to the book which made me very happy. I can’t wait for the second part to come out,” senior Charli Dunlap commented.

The day after Thanksgiving at approximately 12 a.m., prices drop and the citizens come out to shop. Black Friday is a day to flaunt around as many shopping bags as possible, showing off all the money you did not have to spend. Senior Melissa Kelsey is one of the many from North Cobb who participate in this chaotic event. “Black Friday shopping is kind of scary but also a lot of fun,” she commented.

Three weeks before halloween, Anabel Prince brought three different pumpkin spice flavored items for the whole newspaper staff to try. This included; yogurt, oreos, poptarts, and candy-corn flavored popcorn as a bonus. “The Poptarts didn’t really have a pumpkin spice flavor, and just tasted like dough, but the Oreos had a cinnamon or pumpkin flavor which made them my favorite,” staff writer Arsheen Kour said.

Students huddle together for safety after a ‘code red’ alert was issued. With the doors locked and lights off, teachers strive to keep students calm and safe until further notice. “It was definitely scary and having to stay in a tiny room with 30 students didn’t make it any better,” senior Sarah Reagan commented. Students' fears were alleviated when Dr. Page came on the announcements to alert any new developments. his calming voice kept the school from panic.

On October 3rd, the new creepy film 'Annabelle’ was shown at the NCG movie theater in Kennesaw. Many viewers left the theater with a new opinion of dolls and paranormal situations. “I’ve always thought dolls were creepy and seeing this movie just proved my theory”, senior Taylor Powers said. 'Annabelle' appeals to teens during the spooky October horror film season in comparison to other films out this week.

On August 18, the Washington Redskins played the Cleveland Browns. During the game, Johnny Manziel delivered a lovely gesture of sportsmanship to the opposing team: a flip of the middle finger. “I had words exchanged with me throughout the entirety of the game.
