Students and teachers alike bought and took home new plant friends throughout the week to celebrate Greenhouse Gang’s annual Mothers Day plant sale. The senior courtyard served as the club’s selling site where flowery scents and lush plant pots covered each table. The Kennesaw community took a peek at the advertised sale and left with satisfaction in the form of green leaves and colorful petals.

Accomplished constructionist Gerald Lake desires to inspire students with acquired wisdom, enthusiasm, passion and dedication. Through his eager attitude, Lake instills in his students a sense of excitement that comes with knowing how to utilize tools for a productive cause. He hopes that no matter what students derive from his classroom— skills, life lessons or advice— they walk away with their heads held high and confidence instilled.

Students gain the opportunity to design and construct in Coach Adam Cogbill’s engineering class. This is one of several career technology classes that NC offers. However, the issue of the failure to encourage or recognize the furthering of trade skills in post-secondary education perpetuates in much of the school. “My engineering teacher [Cogbill] knew I was interested in trade school, so he invited me to go with the construction class to a trade school job fair in Cartersville where we talked to a bunch of representatives from companies such as Superior Plumbing, Cobb EMC, Georgia Power and Georgia Gas. These are all companies looking to hire people with trade school requirements,” Magnet senior Tanner Corbett said.

A hired technician replaced the normal lights in the panel, located under the courtyard hallway, with a new LED bulb. Known as Corn Cob LEDs, this version of the eco-friendly bulb gains its name from a resemblance to the eponymous vegetable. A recent creation in clean energy, benefits of these bulbs include longer lifespans and comparable energy output relative to tradition luminescent bulbs.

The removal of trees commenced construction for the new Acworth-Kennesaw Regional Library on the corner of Blue Springs Road and Old 41 Highway. “I was pained to see all the trees go. I know what the purpose was for, and overall, I think it is going to be a good thing provided they have a well-managed landscape. It would be a really cool thing if Greenhouse Gang got involved with whoever is doing the designing, and maybe be able to keep a few native trees and plants,” sponsor for NC’s Greenhouse Gang club Ms. Aughey said.

Principal Matthew Moody and Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Matthew Williams celebrated the opening of the new Arena and Performing Arts Center with the historic ribbon cutting ceremony on Tuesday, July 31. The administrative staff, faculty, and student body thanked the EverGreen construction team and the community leaders by providing refreshments and cake after the ceremony.

Students wait while construction continues on the track, which started in early April. Student athletes grow tired of dealing with the constant schedule changes throughout the spring sport season. “They tried to schedule everything around the track being built, earlier they scheduled all our home games back to back to back and then later on in the season all of the games were scheduled to be away,” junior and soccer team captain Josh Labus said.

The construction of a new track for the football field at NC began yesterday. Signs and gates prevent students from entering, asking them to stay away from the stadium. The construction also prevents sports teams utilizing the field, creating a season filled with away games. Despite the inconvenience to NC’s athletes, the new track will provide a much needed face lift to the football field.
