The bakery outlines simplicity, and drives itself to resemble a comfortable, homely cafe. The decorations consist of warm-colored light bulbs, hanging by thin strings to compliment the entirety of the store. A big black-board carries the hand-written menu, emphasizing crispy delights such as biscuits and coffee.

Honeysuckle Biscuits and Bakery, a recently-opened cafe in Downtown Kennesaw, serves as a hotspot for one’s daily dose of caffeine and offers pastries for those with a sweet tooth. The grand-opening took place over the summer on June 20. Made to attract plenty of wandering residents and visitors, its location and design welcomes those who search to fulfill their needs with a sugary-snack. Owners Lori and Mitch Phillips decided that they should open up the new store and introduce the newly-opened business to the city of Kennesaw.

The City of Kennesaw has great plans for the downtown area over the next five years. When we saw the space, we knew it was where our concept would fill a need for the area— serving breakfast items and a full bakery. We are excited to see how the downtown area continues to evolve over the next few years. The city of Kennesaw has been very welcoming to our new business,” owner Lori Phillips said.

The Phillipses also own a franchise called Smallcakes, a chain of bakeries that rose to significant popularity in Georgia. Its popularity led to its massive recognition and feature on the popular Food Network show Cupcake Wars, not only once, but twice. Though they obtained success through their widely-known franchise, the Phillipses wanted to open up a much more intimate and personal connection to their products and make more than just cupcakes.

“We were interested in opening a full bakery that would be our own concept, not a franchise, that we could build and expand.  We were excited to offer more than just cupcakes. I grew up in Honeysuckle Court in Smyrna, GA and thought that the name of the street sounded like a great name for a bakery,” Lori Phillips said.

The bakery offers a variety of food items and drinks, with one of their most popular items as their freshly-baked biscuits served for breakfast. They also provide a unique collection of delicious baked pastries such as mouth-watering muffins, tasty scones, flavorful cannolis, and detailed, decorated cakes. In addition to pastries, they became proud-vendors of their wide-range of coffee.

“This bakery is more personal, we have homemade biscuits which are baked fresh daily. Everything is baked right here,” Honeysuckle employee Shawn said.

Welcomed with smiling faces and the aroma of fresh, sweet goodies, customers can sit and enjoy quality time with their families, friends, or by themselves. The small bakery provides a local comfort-zone, one which people of all ages and backgrounds can enjoy and cherish. With the availability of outside seating, even lovers of the outdoors can enjoy themselves in the Downtown Kennesaw area.

Located in the heart of Downtown Kennesaw, the bakery offers outside seating for customers to enjoy their treats with a view. Bright yellow umbrellas surround the front of the store, and draw attention to its presence.

“We get regular customers because of the quality of the products and the unique atmosphere,” Honeysuckle employee Josh said.

Honeysuckle Biscuits and Bakery continues to advance in brainstorming for new additions to the menu. They hope to expand their variety of products and offer small meals in addition to their mouth-watering pastries, biscuits, and ice cream.

We cover just about any sweet you can crave.  We will be rolling out some sandwiches and soups for lunch soon!” Lori Phillips added.
