The Christmas season comes with numerous aspects to celebrate holiday festivities. From exchanging gifts, decorating homes and hosting Christmas parties, there remains plenty of debate on which day the season officially starts. In this podcast, two members of The Chant discuss their different views on the topic and analyze various aspects of the Christmas season.

Clubs offer a fantastic method for high school students to build community. While NC offers an almost endless list of clubs and extracurriculars, students’ opportunities to join them remain finite. With limited time, scheduling for these clubs becomes a challenge, but the club represented by this schedule may hold a special place in a scholar’s heart.

Following former President and current President-elect Donald Trump’s win against the Democratic party’s candidate Vice President Kamala Harris, a group of left-leaning women have considered joining forces against the patriarchy with the 4B movement. The feminist movement, which originated in Korea, calls for women to avoid traditional gender roles with four pillars: bihon, bichulsan, biyeonae and bisekseu. Though the movement began before the 2020 pandemic, it has remained relatively unknown until its entry into Western media.

The notorious Victorian muffin man–and modern NC teachers Cogbill, Dillard and Tener– and despite the separation of time and technology, all demonstrate the role food plays in connecting populations and spreading warmth. Originating from the 19th century, this iconic figure emerged as a street vendor who fed the hungry industrial workers of his age. Today, the figure lives on in NC hallways, supporting student activities such as wrestling and robotics.

Pumpkins can meet specific entertainment needs and involve different cultural practices. These applications do not always include eating or decoration, but rather a variety of applications, each with its unique purpose.

When a teacher tells a student to believe in their potential, that simple encouragement can change their entire outlook and motivate them to push through challenges. Several students at NC may have experienced a teacher’s words inspiring them and their academic studies. The Chant wanted to know, so our Media Team members set out a jar and a poster with a prompt stating, “What is something a teacher said that moved you?”. If the person had an answer they would put their answer in the jar allowing our staff members to read it later. A teacher's faith in a student and the motivation they instill in young people can push kids to pursue their dreams with confidence.
NC Asks
Reminiscing on their last season, NC color guard seniors laugh and cry together. From heartfelt speeches to spontaneuous dance circles, the night reflects their close-knit bond and journey as performers. Follow the team as they ride a wave of emotions, and celebrate their achievements.

The NBA begins its return within the month and the eastern conference looks completely changed with several free agency moves and trades, the top three teams of the conference; the Milwaukee Bucks, defending champions Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers, look loaded and charged for another year of intense competition between one another.
Battle for the East Coast
“Divergent” by Veronica Roth received a film adaptation in 2014, three years after the book was published. The debate over the differences between the novel and the film may never settle due to the mixed opinions of what the movie adaptation needed to include but chose not to. In this episode of “Book Buddies,” the topic includes showcasing a handful of popular disagreements among fans concerning the “Divergent” film and movie, and addresses both sides.

From homecoming proposals to court announcements, the NC color guard radiates energy, cheering passionately while creating unforgettable memories. Small businesses serve as vital community pillars, drawing towns together and creating niche, warm atmospheres that cannot be replicated in corporate environments. The second episode of “Taste of Home” explores the uniqueness of small businesses and their importance to local climates, featuring Honeysuckle Biscuits and Bakery. From donating to in-town facilities to creating a family-friendly environment, the importance of locally-owned trades presents itself through interviews with both the owner and a customer of Honeysuckle, as well as statistics from an NC poll.

Known for their Friday night, halftime performances, the NC Color Guard fills the stands with enthusiasm and passion. The members spend hours in advance before performances applying makeup and styling hair. As the game continues, the camaraderie among the team shines through as they celebrate each other's achievements. As they dance to stand tunes, the guard’s radiant energy fills the atmosphere, creating an unforgettable football game.

After a 17-0 victory against East Paulding (0-5), the NC varsity boys lacrosse team (1-3) hoped to capitalize with two victories, but unfortunately fell convincingly to two top-notch opponents. On this episode of Sideline Spear, Nathaniel Jordan looks ahead to how the Warriors may bounce back in the lengthy season. With plenty of games to play, the 1-3 Warriors still show great upside for the remaining season.

Numerous Oscar-winning dystopian movies from earlier decades became known for their intricate storylines and captivating scores. Unfortunately, this genre of film dwindled significantly in past years due to the rise in popularity of other genres such as romance, horror and young adult fantasy. Older dystopian book-to-film adaptations continue to receive affection from fans. In particular, three different series: “The Maze Runner,” “The Hunger Games” and “Divergent” hooked younger audiences in the 2010s and influenced movie tastes for Generation Z today.

NC senior running back David Eziomume (2) has undoubtedly left his mark on the Warrior Nation. As the four-star Clemson commit prepares for the 2023 state playoffs, his future head coach Dabo Swinney sets the table for the future Tiger. After an unprecedented breakout senior season, Eziomume leaves his mark on Warrior football and moves on to his next chapter.

Despite an early deficit, the Lady Warriors powered through to a win in the final set of a best-of-five match. The International Extravaganza makes a groundbreaking return after a cancellation due to the pandemic in 2020. The evening event, hosted in NC’s cafeteria, provided students, parents, administration and the community with an enjoyable experience. Participants left with full stomachs and satisfied minds following presentations by Awtrey and Barber middle school students, who educated listeners with the cultures, traditions and customs of over 40 countries.

Advancing into her second year on The Chant, Addie Hill’s love for writing has only grown. Now serving as the Page Lead and Media Team Liaison, Hill hopes to expand her abilities as a writer, communicator and editor, all while still striving to reach her main goal for this year: worshiping Jesus. As co-leader of NC’s Collective Hope Bible Study Club and attendee of Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA), Hill aims to spread God’s love through writing. Outside of reporting, Hill loves to dance, listen to indie-folk music, read, crochet, spend time with her family and friends, and attend church.  She cannot wait to finish her final chapter at NC by reporting for the school’s publication, and she strives to write for a newspaper in college and beyond! Valentina Gonzalez joined The Chant her freshman year of high school after taking Journalism 101 to enhance her writing skills. Now a senior, Gonzalez wishes to major in English to pursue a career in writing and film production using the skills she acquired during her time as a member of The Chant. Outside of the pub office, Gonzalez enjoys reading classic literature and watching old movies, and appreciates the standards of old novels and films.
