Tuesday vs Harrison

The men’s varsity basketball team overcame a slow start to defeat the Harrison Hoyas, 50-40. The Warriors scored only five first quarter points but came alive in the final three quarters to beat the Hoyas by ten.

“Our defense stepped up in the second half, we got stops, rebounded well, and started executing better and hitting open shots. Our execution at the end of the game was big as well,” junior point guard Ricky Shearman said following the win.

Junior shooting guard D.J. Render led the team in scoring with 13 points and junior forward Kenny Ume had nine. Senior forward Isaiah Clemons snagged nine rebounds to lead the Warrior effort on the glass.

Friday vs Kennesaw Mountain

On Friday, the Warriors were devastated after the loss to a rival, 38-36. Leading by three with under a minute left, Kennesaw Mountain’s Nigel Hayes converted an and-one to tie the game, prior to sinking the game winning free throws just seconds later. Kenny Ume’s last second three went in and out as the Warriors were left in despair.

Ricky Shearman and D.J. Render lead the Warriors in scoring, with 12 and 11 points respectively.

Saturday vs Kell

As if one agonizing defeat was not enough, the basketball gods decided to leave the NC faithful in desolation again on Saturday as they were defeated by Kell in overtime, 43-41.

Kell sophomore Kendrick Summerour dribbled down the clock before hitting a fade-away jumper as time expired  to give the Longhorns a two-point victory. D.J. Render tied the game as he was fouled with just 40 seconds left in OT. He made the free throw, but was called for his foot being on the free throw line, so the score remained tied.

Render led NC with 10 points.

“These were tough games and we couldn’t squeeze the last two out, but we have to come out hungry and fight to win the region,” junior guard and sixth man Myles Lake said.
