Sophomore Addison O’Neil (15) brings the heat to the NC varsity softball team (8-0) as a star third baseman, and with the fans behind her, she proudly wears the number 15 on her jersey. As the seasons roll by, O’Neil continues to step up in her roles on the softball team while bonding with the other talented girls. Through the impenetrable bonds she has formed, her found family rallies around her with an uproar in the stands and an everlasting support system.
“Addie is a strong softball player, and I truly enjoy watching her play. I go to a lot of the games because I enjoy watching softball, but she always stands out. I think she has a lot of potential, and I hope she gets some offers to colleges,” freshman Kendra Lamb said.
O’Neil decided to play softball at the young age of 5 after observing her brother, Aiden O’Neil, on his own club baseball team. She enjoyed watching him play and noticed the happiness that baseball brought him, and she also wanted that for herself. Afterward, she quickly joined a recreational team in the Acworth area and uncovered her enjoyment for softball. With the dedication of a professional, O’Neil devoted herself to softball for the following 11 years, and that love for the sport will continue to drive her to excel. Her right-minded attitude of continuously challenging herself allows her to thrive both on and off the field, fostering a determination that carries into all aspects of her life.

“I like Addie because she has a good attitude and has a lot of energy in the dugout. She also has a lot of skill at third base and a strong arm. She hits very well and gets bunts down when needed,” sophomore second baseman Mallory Wilson (21) said.
On the field, O’Neil takes on the role of a third baseman, fielding hard-hitting ground balls. Her strong connection with her team remains a factor in softball that she deeply values, as she believes that building chemistry among players plays a crucial role in a team’s overall success. She understands that bonds act as an essential factor in achieving success as a team and appreciates the familial feel.
“I definitely feel like the player I’ve become and the player I’m still becoming is because of the way others have impacted me and encouraged me to do the best I can. I hope for this season to win the region champs again and to be state champs. My favorite part of softball would be the friends I make along the way and having the ability to even be out there,” O’Neil said.
After high school, O’Neil desires to acquire a scholarship for softball at the University of Georgia (UGA). Even though the future remains uncertain, O’Neil believes that with her stellar grades and incredible work ethic that she can score a full ride to UGA. Beyond softball, O’Neil hopes to pursue a career in finance or accounting. She enjoys the ins and outs of numbers, along with the satisfaction of completing math problems. With her pleasure in math, she believes that this career choice will suit her perfectly.
The Chant wishes O’Neil and the NC softball team luck on their endeavors.
