NC pets: Fur–ever friends

NC students’ pets bring warmth and laughter to everyday life. From loyal dogs to sleepy cats, they ease the stress from studying and create excitement. These companions act as a reminder that love and support can come in all shapes, sizes and species.

“My favorite memory is when it was her birthday, so my sister and I dressed her up; it was in princess attire, and we sang her happy birthday. She’s just adorable. Like a typical dog. She greets you at the door, barks, all of it. She’s cute and I just love that about her,” magnet freshman Malayuh Mullin said.

“I was eating, and because of her big-back self, she was begging for my food as usual. But this time, she put her head on my knee, and it was adorable. She’s super playful and nonchalant at the same time. She’s the calmest pet we have, but when she plays, she’ll run around and jump onto things,” magnet freshman Malayuh Mullin said.

“My family and I were on a walk with him, and he pulled on my father so hard he almost fell. It was hilarious. He’s very friendly and attention-seeking. He’s always shoving people to get someone to pet him. Although it can be annoying, I love it about him,’’ magnet freshman Malayuh Mullin said.

“I came home from school and we just lay together until I fell asleep. He’s a very cuddly cat, but doesn’t stay in place for several hours. This time he did. He’ll lie with me all the time and let me love him; that’s definitely the best part. I can just grab him and pet him while I watch Netflix,” magnet freshman Malayuh Mullin said.

“I love when she knows I’m going to give her food and when she recognizes my voice. She swims excitedly up to the surface and waits for me every day and night, or even when I walk into the room. What I love about her is the colors, the light blue spine-like fins almost glow in the dark at nighttime,” sophomore Ximena Ortiz said.

“She sits on her rock and acts like she’s watching TV with us, it’s so funny. She has a huge appetite; she can eat and eat again right after eating. Something interesting about her is that if I hold it for too long, she can get me sick, but I love her anyway,” senior Layla Duplessis said.

Camila Ortiz, a senior at NC, joined The Chant this year with a deep passion for visual art and mental health advocacy. Ortiz, from a young age, has always put passion in her work and brings a creative and empathetic voice to her community. As the oldest of four siblings and the daughter of immigrant parents, she desires to become the person her parents have wanted her to become and to be the example her siblings need. In her free time, Ortiz enjoys drawing, crafting, baking, and reading. After graduation, Ortiz hopes to pursue a career as a mental health nurse, where she hopes to combine her compassion and creativity to make a positive impact in people’s lives. This year, Ortiz is excited to have the opportunity to make an impact and follow her passions while designing for The Chant.
