In the age of easily accessible music, individuals all over the world spend their time online, listening to their favorite tunes. December 3, Spotify released the annual Spotify Wrapped, a snapshot collection of users’ listening activities throughout the year. This feature provides an interactive experience, as individuals revisit their year-long and ever-changing musical preferences.
“I honestly love Spotify Wrapped. It gives me an overview of what I’ve listened to throughout the year. It’s so nostalgic being able to see what I’ve been into and the artists that were in my playlists throughout the year. I don’t really like how these past two years on Spotify Wrapped, they may have been using artificial intelligence (AI). Overall, it’s a cool feature to use,” junior Airabella Brown said.
Per usual, the assortment contained users’ top five artists and top five songs. Additionally, it showed the top genres, minutes listened and top albums. Outside of those details, the collection took creative liberty, differing this release from those in previous years. This Wrapped showed off several new categories pertaining to specific days throughout the year, such as “Most Diverse Day,” when individuals listened to a wide range of genres and “Biggest Music Listening Day,” “Repeat-Heavy Day” and the “Most Nostalgic Day,” when users listened to hits popular in previous years.
Additionally, the Wrapped provided users with their “Listening Age,” using the genres and songs individuals enjoyed to determine age range. For example, if an individual showed a stark interest in music from the 1990s, their listening age would represent that through calculating the current age of a young adult in the 1990s: anywhere from 30 to 49.
“What I like about Spotify Wrapped is that it gives an honest representation of who I am as a person. I think Spotify Wrapped is also a good way to connect with other people and make connections because you can find people who share the same interests as you. It really allows you to get a good sense of who people are and who your friends are, like you obviously do not want to be friends with someone who still listens to Twenty One Pilots,” junior Grier Coats said.
As soon as the 2025 Spotify Wrapped became available across the U.S., social media platforms such as Snapchat and Instagram exploded with activity. Teenagers and young adults posted their Spotify Wrapped on their stories to show off their unique musical palette. Overall, the 2025 Wrapped provided a sense of musical joy and a perfect way to end the year.
