NC’s drama department prepares to perform their latest musical production, Legally Blonde: the Musical.

After their success with The 39 Steps, the drama department moves forward with Legally Blonde: the Musical. The musical, adapted from the popular 2001 movie Legally Blonde, follows Elle Woods on her quest to attend Harvard Law and win her ex-boyfriend back.

“I’m very excited to be putting Legally Blonde on because it’s one of my favorite musicals. I’m also very happy I play the villain for once too. Playing the villain is always fun,” junior Darby Franks said.

Despite several changes between the movie and stage adaptation, viewers will see recognizable characters, including Warner Huntington III, Paulette Bonafonté, Brooke Wyndham, and Vivienne Kensington. The plot remains practically identical between the movie and musical with minimal changes to make more sense on stage.

“I love the show! It’s so fun, and there is something for everyone. The songs are amazing, and we worked so hard and the dances,” freshman Jordan Hicks said.

The show features fast-paced songs and high energy dance numbers everyone will enjoy. The grander numbers, such as “Whipped Into Shape,” “What You Want,” and “OmiGod You Guys” will definitely leave audiences cheering for days to come. Mixed with the show’s talented voices, such as sophomore Sydney Silver (Elle Woods), senior Chris Elsey (Emmett Forrest), and Franks (Vivienne Kensington), Legally Blonde: the Musical will surely become the drama department’s next hit.

“Everyone should come see the show. The plot is interesting, and there are so many fun and exciting moments. We all worked extremely hard on Legally Blonde, so everyone should definitely come see it. It’s going to be awesome,” senior McKenzie Braddy said.

Drama will perform the show March 26 and March 27 at 7 PM, and March 28 at 3 and 7 PM. To purchase a ticket for $10, find any drama member or contact Mrs. Oz.
