Once again, the seniors dominated Powderpuff, a girls’ football tournament that serves as a fundraiser for the NC softball team, on Thursday, April 28.

Following the demolition of the sophomores, the seniors went head-to-head with the juniors, and played for the coveted pink trophy. After two 20 minute halves, the juniors succumbed to defeat, giving the trophy to the senior class. The juniors placed second, the sophomores third, and the freshmen bringing in the rear in fourth place.

The tournament began with the freshmen facing off against the juniors, a game in which the freshmen scored no touchdowns. On the other hand, the juniors showed out for their first game, scoring a total of 18 points thanks to wide receiver Reilly Cook. “We tried our best, but I think we all knew the juniors were going to beat us,” freshman Chrysten Luckey said.

The underclassmen continued to take losses in the second game, when the sophomores suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the seniors. Seniors Franchesca Voltaire, Taylor Krause, and Mackenzie Krause led their team to a 20-0 victory.

However, the sophomores did prevail during the consolation game against the freshmen. With the final score at 20-0, the sophomores took their spot in third place, and the freshmen in fourth. “Next year we’re going to win it all, I don’t care what anyone says. The class of 2018 is on the come up,” sophomore Chelsea Scarborough said.

This proved only a warmup for the championship game between the juniors and the seniors; despite their best efforts, the seniors crushed the juniors 20-0. “As the defensive coordinator, I just taught the girls everything I know. They executed it perfectly, and it was so satisfying to see the look on their faces after they won. It was great because they worked so hard for it,” senior coach Manny Pelzer said.
