After a recent increase in childhood obesity, former first lady Michelle Obama has implemented a new lunch menu for public schools across the nation. In this new menu, students should expect to see items such as veggie burgers and cauliflower nuggets. The new lunch menu will go into effect by August 1.

NC hosts a food truck behind the Freshman Academy to recognize staff for Teacher Appreciation Week. Teachers may order food and eat it at tables next to the food truck during their lunch periods. The caterer, Gaston Street Eats, provides a variety of food choices, including fresh gulf shrimp, fried chicken breast and fried hand pies. NC makes sure to thank the staff in special ways to show their appreciation.

NC’s Sources of Strength hold a booth at B lunch. Students can fill out a paper stating their source of strength and can enter a raffle to win a Sources of Strength pin. Sources of Strength’s program helps students to feel safe when they need a hand to hold during rough times.

The Magnet lounge, only available to students a part of the International Studies Magnet program, remains fairly popular amongst the Magnet student body. Though occasional messes and run down couches, the Magnet lounge remains a great area for students to debrief during their 26 minute lunch break. “I love the diverse people, food, and smells that the Magnet lounge brings” said Magnet junior Nathan Daniels.

Gordon Ramsay makes an appearance in the school cafeteria as he tries the flavorful dishes for himself. “I believe our school lunches here are truly something to be proud of. I always thought North Cobb would be known for our competitive and hard-working students. However, our tasty lunches outshine those in all of the United States of America,” NC principal Matthew Moody said. NC continues to boast of their five-star cuisine for lunch, as they redefine the true meaning of a “school lunch”.

We Dine Together club members are present at every lunch in the main cafeteria, searching for students who sit alone with no other people to talk to. The members make people feel welcomed through inviting them over to eat with them, forming friendships and other exciting connections.

Mrs.Hoppers ASL students sign while munching on delicious cookies, chips, and crackers. However, this lunch differs from the rest: the students cannot speak during the period. Instead, they could only rely on their new sign language abilities. These abilities allow the students to communicate and connect with those impacted by hearing loss.

Representatives from the U.S. Army Reserve stopped by during third period to ask students about the next stage in their lives and to consider the reserve. Sergeant Davina M. Jones said, “Most people don’t know that joining the reserves can help you pay for college. You get to go to the college of your choice nearly for free, all it requires is a few weeks of basic training.” Visit them in the cafeteria during lunch.

NC administrator, Kiel Southwell, grills hamburger beef and sausages in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week. Gathering together in the courtyard, NC teachers and administrators enjoyed their meal as they talked and celebrated with one another. Its lovely to be recognized for all those extra hours we put in, AP Macroeconomics teacher Dr. Pam Roach said, its a small token and its lovely.
