NC’s Greenhouse Gang puts together the annual Mother’s Day plant sale. This plant sale runs from Wednesday May 8 to Saturday May 11 which consists of flowers, hanging baskets, herbs, veggies, and succulents. Prices vary depending on what size and which plant students chose to buy.

Biology teacher Sue Aughey started a genetics project that allows students to see the passing down of traits close up. While students study Mendelian genetics, they plant flowers in red solo cups and see how the traits affect the the color of the flower. This beautiful project blooms and gives the outside walkways of NC a pop of color.

NC’s own Green House Gang plans to host a plant sale May 11-13. The times include 3:30-5:00 pm on Thursday and Friday, and also Saturday from 9:00-1:00 pm. Orchids, flowers, veggies, and hanging baskets will be available for purchase. Come out and support your warriors!

Sophomore Roy Nuthee waters and fertilizes the greenery under the roof of NC’s greenhouse. The Greenhouse Gang, a club in NC, revolves around growing various plants to benefit the environment and community. “I love the greenhouse because I have the opportunity to nurture plants and see how they turn out at the end of the year.” says Nuthee.

The Greenhouse Gang’s seedlings begin to flourish inside the retaining walls built by NC’s Beta Club. The members work to have positive impacts upon the environment and community.

Fall blooms

NC’s first ever Greenhouse Gang prepared a variety of plants from fruits and vegetables to flowers and succulents for a plant sale. The money raised from the plant sale will go towards the club’s future fundings and later other charities and organizations, “We just got our club approved back in March and it’s amazing how much we have grown in so little time,” said Forensics teacher and club sponsor Susan Aughey. The plant sale will be held on Tuesday May 17th and Wednesday May 18th.

Sophomore Caitlyn Cunningham demonstrates hydroponics, or the process of growing plants in sand, gravel, or liquid with nutrients, but without soil. A member of the new Greenhouse club at NC, she says “It’s a fun club, we just started so we haven’t done much yet. We’re growing up the plants so we can move them into the greenhouse soon and start the processes.”
