History has shown that the prevalence of war within the European continent remains synonymous with their obsession with power. The war in Ukraine sparked a different perspective for a multitude of individuals, however, highlighting a disturbing pattern of indifference towards people of color (POC). “The ongoing support for Ukraine just emphasizes how white Americans will always have more compassion towards white countries despite the various black and brown countries that have suffered for centuries by their hand and continue to suffer,” junior Anyiah Narcisse said.

After several warnings of economic intervention from President Joe Biden, the president recently ended traditional ties with Russia. Biden signed a bill to donate billions to the country of Ukraine, and as the war continues, Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy seeks out Congress and President Biden for both government funding and civilian financial assistance. President Biden continues to offer his condolences and refuge for Ukrainian civilians suffering from the invasion.

While Biden helps the lives in danger in Ukraine, he also hurts the economy in the U.S. When gas prices rise, it can affect the economy and impact everything from consumer spending to the price of airline tickets to hiring practices. Gas greatly contributes to transportation, which directly impacts households as they drive, but also businesses that rely on transportation chains worldwide.
