NC catcher Lauren Byrd will attend Queens University of Charlotte. She announced her commitment Wednesday, October 19 through Instagram. Byrd’s season ended on Sunday, October 23, and she plans to put in work during the off-season. Byrd will come back to NC for her senior year to graduate in 2024 to compete and make the best of her senior season.

NC junior Soleil Smith and freshman Leah Byrd (9) added pressure to the Walton Raiders offense by not allowing anyone to score. Byrd controlled defense the whole night, leading the team to victory and securing the Lady Warriors’ spot in playoffs. Up next, the Warriors will face the Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs Thursday, October 6 at home.

The Lady Warriors hold high hopes for their next regional game Tuesday, October 6 at 6 pm against the Walton Lady Raiders. “As for the next game, I believe we will win. Last game we won 9-7 and it was a good, competitive game. Our defense was solid and hitting on point. If anything happens I think it will be a positive direction to score first and ride it out ‘til the end for the win! Us girls just need to have confidence in ourselves and as a team,” senior Kendall Minard said.

Like a photo captured straight out of a coming-of-age film, the NC Varsity Softball team pictured prepared to spread love on their Senior Night. Underclassmen walked onto the field, hands filled with goodie baskets and posters they made to give to each of the seniors during their ceremony. The girls went on to win their game, the final score a (9-7).

NC Lady Warrior Softball team welcomed Coach Scott Turchan as their new Varsity head coach today. Turchan released the exciting news first period during an assembly. Players perceived the announcement well and remain hopeful to continue their esteemed legacy this season with Turchan leading towards success. “I cant wait to develop these girls as not only softball players, but as people in the long run,” Turchan said.

Head softball coach and teacher announced her retirement on Monday November 4. During second period, Coach Weaver, Principal Matt Moody, and Athletic Director Matt Williams called the girls varsity and junior varsity to the Performing Arts center. Weaver then informed the entire team she would retire at the end of the 2019-2020 school year, after 35 years of teaching and coaching. “Ten or fifteen years from now, I will always be your coach. You can call me, text me, or talk to me whenever you need me. It was a pleasure coaching you girls,” Weaver said.

NC Lady Warriors faced off against the Hillgrove Hawks on their Senior Night Tuesday, October 1, 2019. Though the Warriors walked away with a loss, the defense filled the game with amazing plays, and they will walk into their next game with their heads held high. “Some of us have been playing together for five or more years and we created lifelong friendships and memories. Sometimes good things shouldn’t come to an end,” NC senior varsity softball player Kathryn Bywaters said.

Seniors on NC Lady Warriors softball team step up to bat for the last time in their high school careers tonight at senior night. The girls feel prepared to leave it all on the field as they face off against the Hillgrove Hawks. The seniors eagerly await to participate in this celebration that they have watched so many times before in previous years. “I’m looking forward to being appreciated for all that we do and have done the past four years,” senior Kathryn Bywaters said. Come out and support the Varsity softball team at their last home game of their season tonight at 5:45!

Tensions ran high as students anxiously watch the cross country team compete against the football players in a game of tug a war. Senior Jayden Walker used every muscle in his body to pull the rope, and despite their diligence, the football players ultimately lost to the girls’ cross country team. Perhaps it helped that Coaches Tener, Rainey, and finally, Queen were working against their own players to the delight of the roaring crowd.
