The NC Warrior varsity football team (4-0) prevailed over the Etowah Eagles (0-4) on Friday, October 2nd at Emory Sewell stadium. The win marks head coach Shane Queen’s 100th win for the Warriors, a great milestone to add to his illustrious career as a high school football coach.

Starting off strong, the Warriors scored two touchdowns in the first quarter, setting the tone for the rest of the game. Running back Benjamin Hall scored on a 1-yard rush while sophomore quarterback Malachi Singleton added in a 4-yard score, putting NC up 14-0. The Warriors scored another touchdown in the second quarter when Singleton connected with senior wide receiver Xavier Clark on a 4-yard pass. The NC defense gave up generous yardage on the run game but held the Eagles to a mere field goal in the first half. The Warriors played without key starters on both sides of the ball.

We have a coaching staff that’s been together for a long time and a community that supports us to no end. It’s not about Coach Queen. It’s about the North Cobb players that’s in that locker room and the ones that have been there 15 years before them,” Coach Queen said.

Following halftime, both teams remained scoreless until Singleton tossed a 16-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Trevor Lovett, extending the lead to 28-3. The Eagles could not break the Warrior defense until the last two minutes of the fourth quarter when Kilvert Many ran for an 8-yard touchdown. The game ended in a conclusive victory for NC on the frigid Friday night.

Singleton continues to perform well as the Warrior starting quarterback, completing 9 of 15 passes for 159 yards with a pair of passing touchdowns. He also added 59 yards with his feet and an additional rushing touchdown. Senior linebacker Cobe Singleton came up with his first interception on the season, while Junior defensive end Joshua Josephs recovered a fumble.

The Senior Night game highlights Coach Queen’s brilliant career as head coach at North Cobb, with the team now boasting 100 wins under his leadership the past 15 seasons.

“You know we got 31 seniors and a mix of starting underclassmen that have been through thick and thin together. But we got to play a lot better next week at North Gwinnett. We got to fix some things, but to get a win is huge and again it’s not me it’s the staff, community, these players, a lot of their older brothers played here so these 15 years have been a great ride,” Queen said.

Now on a 4-0 winning streak during the regular season, the Warriors aim to succeed all the way to region play in the next few weeks. Following massive victories at both Buford and Alpharetta, the Warriors look poised to play better against future opponents. Now ranked in the top 10 in various polls all throughout Georgia, NC hopes to defeat the North Gwinnett Bulldogs on Friday, October 9 at the Bulldog Stadium.
