Elijah Pacis, Sports Editor

Elijah Pacis, a senior at NC, joined The Chant to broaden his skills needed in college and beyond. He enjoys playing volleyball and basketball, having played basketball in middle school. Elijah’s favorite pastimes include playing video games, watching anime, and listening to music. He also likes theater and improv, having played major roles in middle school along with flourishing on its improv team, although stopping his involvement in theater for other pursuits. 

 

Pacis lived in California’s Bay Area until entering his freshman year at NC. He plans to attend college to pursue a career in computer science and astronautics.  He wants to visit different countries in the future, including Korea and Japan. He hopes to learn multiple languages and work internationally one day. 

 

He’s excited to begin his second year with The Chant to provide info and outlooks on multiple topics.

Examples of popular anime that brought anime to global attention include “Dragon Ball”, “Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood” and “Steins; Gate”. “Attack on Titan” serves excellently as an entry-level show for aspiring anime fans, especially without the sentiment that stems from childhood shows like “Naruto” and “Bleach”.

Born to Vietnamese parents, keshi adds to a growing collection of popular Asian-American artists; his name comes to mind alongside Rich Brian, Jhené Aiko and Olivia Rodrigo. Fans can stress the ethnicity of their favorite artists as part of why they enjoy their works, but keshi tries to distance himself from this branding on his identity. “I think that when you try to stress that you are an Asian-American artist, it’s almost like you’re trying to carve out a space for yourself that says, ‘Hey, this guy is an Asian artist so you should give him attention because of that when the real reason you should be giving someone attention is that their art is just good.,” Keshi said.

After an unfortunate end to the 2021 season, the NC Warriors looked to bring additional star power to the coaching room as the offseason drags on. As soon as the news hit that former NFL legend Tom Brady retired, head coach Shane Queen called Brady’s management team and offered him a full-time position as NC’s quarterbacks coach. To the majority of fans surprise, the ex-New England Patriot accepted the offer and seemed ecstatic to work with rising senior quarterback Malachi Singleton.

These bright students sampled NC’s activity offerings and learned about their future high school experience through presentations by NC representatives and a tour around the school after viewing different clubs and teams. NC aims to recruit the best of the bunch with promises of a unique experience for each and every new Warrior.

Known for his hand in songwriting, instrumentation, and production of his works, Charlie Puth possesses a diverse skill set in music that few other artists can contest. Beginning his path to stardom through his YouTube channel, “Charlie’s Vlogs”, he initially posted acoustic covers of popular songs. Ellen DeGeneres scouted him through this channel and signed Puth with her music label. His popularity rocketed upward from there.

If students cannot attend their desired school, they can attend a different college first, then transfer later in their college career. For example, Georgia Technical Institute (Georgia Tech) accepted just below 40% and 20% of Georgian and non-Georgian applicants respectively in 2020. On the other hand, the college accepted 53% of Georgia resident transfers and 31% of non-Georgia residents. So an option exists where one could attend Kennesaw State University (KSU) at first, then transfer into Georgia Tech later on.

Filled with 80’s pop music and “hosted” by Jim Carrey, the album cements its place in the charts.

Resulting from the advent of a Japanese cultural explosion in the US, an array of foods, shows and movies found a welcoming, multicultural society in America. An attractive culture constitutes one that can spread through America’s consumer society at a low cost to allow interested companies to profit. Japanese culture ticks all the boxes, offering affordable cuisines through sushi and low-cost entertainment through anime and manga. The Japanese club brings these things close to NC students, allowing attendees to appreciate these cultural aspects for themselves without leaving the school.

Taking a peek at past marketing productions by Riot Games reveals a focus on marketing their mainstay esports titles, including original music videos promoting its annual World Championship events. Imagine Dragons performed a few of the songs used in those music videos, and also created the opening song of Arcane alongside JID titled Enemy. Arcane serves the same purpose by introducing League of Legends to a widespread audience on Netflix.

The Warriors entered Friday night with a 6-1 record, while the Hawks arrived with a 1-6 record. The Warriors dominated the 3AAAAAAAA region a year prior and so far earned a 3-0 start to 2021 region play. NC will travel to an away game on October 29 against the Marietta Blue Devils, come out and support our Warriors.

After the run in the morning, runners earned recognition no matter their age. Race organizers handed out medals to the fastest runners from male and female brackets across twelve different age groups. “The Warrior Way is always a great community event. This year it was even more special after having to be virtual last year. So many North Cobb alumni showed up to run. It was great to see so many old friends,” cross country head coach John Huff.

The first showing of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings happened in Los Angeles on August 16, 2021. During this red carpet event, fans could tune into a livestream to catch interviews with the cast and crew of the movie. The film’s nationwide release in the USA will occur on September 3. “I feel releasing a movie related to Asian culture would create an inside look at cultural aspects that many don’t get to see in the west, so I think it would allow for people to correct stereotypes,” NC senior Bryan Casalini said.

Following a 59-16 scrimmage win over the Sprayberry Yellow Jackets, the NC Warriors ventured into their first regular season game. Despite taking a 14-0 lead at halftime, the Warriors ultimately fell to the Buford Wolves, 35-27. With impressive performances from quarterback Malachi Singleton, wide receiver Reggie Givhan, and defensive specialist Marquis Grove-Killebrew. Although an undesired outcome, the top-ranked Warriors plan to go back to the drawing boards for next week’s outing versus the Milton Eagles.

“I think the reusable technology on the Crew-2 launch is a smart investment by NASA and SpaceX. I can see it benefiting the world in a lot of ways, not only can space travel be possible for average people one day but being able to find resources and room on other planets for colonization could be part of a solution to the ongoing problems on our own planet,” said junior Bryan Casalini. Earth issues including global warming and overconsumption led companies like SpaceX to seek out solutions in space. Although commercial spaceflight and interplanetary colonization sits far outside of people’s paychecks, cheapening spaceflight through reusability also reduces the amount of resources required by rockets and spacecraft.

Raya and the Last Dragon marks another addition to Disney’s Asian-inspired lineup of films alongside Mulan. Where Mulan represents China, Raya and the Last Dragon represents Southeast Asia. However, certain groups feel that Disney inadequately represented the individual cultures in Southeast Asia on top of the voice cast not primarily hailing from that region.

With the wrestling season over, senior players including Jett Wright and Debare Omoniaye will move on from the wrestling program. KSU paused a large number of on-campus activities in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Concerts and other annual public events no longer take place, while any sports still commencing enforce several limits and restrictions. KSU keeps students safe and engaged in the 2020-21 semester by incorporating an alternate rotation schedule, where students participate in online classes one week and attend in-person classes the following week.

However, it does not take expensive hardware or equipment to start creating content. One can use OBS, or any other screen-capture program, and editing software to record themselves playing games and post edited footage. Dozens of activities like cooking and sports only require a phone to record and an internet connection to upload.
