The Oscars have received backlash countless times, but never to this drastic extent. Crowds rallying to defend Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie shocks viewers and provides laughs for those not caught up. Watching this unfold will amuse audiences for sure.

With the Oscars taking place March 10, audiences could not wait to peek at the nominees. With the plethora of stellar movies such as Barbie, Oppenheimer and Poor Things that faced incredible feedback, viewers could tell which actors and what movies would receive the most nominations.

“I haven’t heard about the last two movies, but I’ve heard about Barbie. Hearing Margot and Greta receive nothing rightfully outrages audiences. They’ll probably have other nominations though,” Amyra Mitchell said

While the Oscars do not always properly recognize the actors or movies that deserve praise, this habit has slowed in recent years and received callouts by viewers all over. But the Oscars should not worry about this perceived issue while they have celebrities smacking one another on stage.

Announcing the nominations for the 2024 ceremony January 23, 2024, fans felt shocked to see A-list actress Margot Robbie and talented director Greta Gerwig did not receive one nomination. With the continuous love Barbie receives, fans thought the masterminds behind the film would receive something.

This incident upset countless fans who have decided to take their anger to the streets. Audiences decided to rally around the ceremony to make their feelings known. Boycotting the TV stream, and protesting outside the Dolby Theatre. Online viewers feel excited to see how long this protest will continue. This joint agreement to cancel the Oscars came with ease.

“It’s [the protest] interesting to watch for sure. Although I believe Margot has had better roles, Greta definitely deserves to be appreciated. I’d join them if I could,” Brianna Gilbert said.
