From patching up football players to teaching about body systems, Angela Guggino, one of the key players in NC's athletics department, leads the sports medicine CTAE pathway. Students seeking careers as doctors or nurses can start training thanks to her courses in healthcare. Novels, short stories and poems all play a major part in an adolescent's development, impacting his or her critical thinking skills and creativity. With the switch from literature to social media as a child’s form of entertainment, these aforementioned skills have been underdeveloped with the changing times. Despite the rise in digital media, books remain a necessary aspect in a child’s life.
Rewriting the future: How books remain imperative in a child’s life
Students, prone to the endless stimuli surrounding them on their school campuses, remain unaware of the impact of littering on not only the environment but also on their psyche. By providing proper maintenance, silent heroes such as NC’s custodial staff, Greenhouse Gang and Beta Club foster the school’s positive environment. Campus cleanliness holds an undeniable grasp on the mindsets of students and staff alike, promoting the need for conscious action against littering and property disrespect.

Scroll, pause, lip-sync repeat. Music today no longer reaches for listeners’ heartstrings, but into the pockets and hands of TikTok’s algorithm. Songs no longer fight for artistry awards, but instead for 15 fleeting seconds of fame. Artists recycle the same popular and passionless beats, trading vulnerable lyrics for viral buzzwords, resulting in mediocre, repetitive songs and self-inflicted stagnation.

An artist’s new release remains one of fans’ appreciable joys, yet musician Taylor Swift’s recent release, “The Life of a Showgirl,” received varied reactions. Swift has maintained a spot as one of the top pop musical artists for years on end, yet the quality of her musical releases seems to decrease as time marches on, as clearly seen in her latest album. Instead of producing mediocre music, Swift should take a step back into her country era and use her talent and resources to produce quality lyrical productions.

The release of three comedically awful movies in the early 2000s, The Twilight Saga, based on the book series, took the internet by storm. While a portion of dedicated fans believe the films and books alike hold significance in the world of popular culture, the truth remains. Twilight covers taboo subjects with a heavy hand, lacks the subtlety necessary for a Young Adult (YA) novel, and overall, retains a silly, easily meme-able air.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) suspiciously amalgamates with prominent figures, specifically politicians, escalating the poisonous issue of misinformation, hindering people from political literacy. This explosive mix has led to an increase in AI propaganda, misdirecting media viewers and contributing to the major matter of polarization.

NC’s Cross Country (XC) team races through each season with Warrior pride, and this past season proved no different. From early morning meets to long afternoon practices, the team consistently shows up and shows out, pushing each other to their personal best. Each runner's dedication exceeds expectations, only fueling the NC spirit and excellence.

Throughout her entire life, senior Andria Atkinson has enjoyed anything remotely artistic. As an aspiring art therapist, Atkinson puts her all into setting her career up for success by participating in extracurriculars both in and outside of NC. With a love for art, community and connection, the senior creates projects to gift to her friends and family.

November 11, 2025, the NC Warrior men’s basketball team faced off against the Harrison High School Hoyas in a thrilling four-quarter bout. With fans in attendance and the scorecards at the ready, the season finally tipped off in NC’s arena. Despite the one-point loss, the squad displayed extensive hustle and effort.

Each year, the ocean temperatures break record highs, affecting the way fish and other marine animals grow, reproduce and feed. The increasing temperatures also cause significant issues for aquatic habitats, specifically coral bleaching. The need for awareness around climate change increases as time passes, and represents a critical step in combating global warming as a whole.
Deep trouble: The pressure to turn the tide on rising ocean temperatures
Once a worker knows how to file their taxes, the ugly memory of all the money he or she cannot spend haunts their wallet. By understanding where each dime finds its home, that wound might begin to heal. Three major types of income taxes exist in the U.S.: Social Security and Medicare, federal income tax and local income tax, with each serving a unique purpose.

Camila Ortiz, a senior at NC, joined The Chant this year with a deep passion for visual art and mental health advocacy. Ortiz, from a young age, has always put passion in her work and brings a creative and empathetic voice to her community. As the oldest of four siblings and the daughter of immigrant parents, she desires to become the person her parents have wanted her to become and to be the example her siblings need. In her free time, Ortiz enjoys drawing, crafting, baking, and reading. After graduation, Ortiz hopes to pursue a career as a mental health nurse, where she hopes to combine her compassion and creativity to make a positive impact in people’s lives. This year, Ortiz is excited to have the opportunity to make an impact and follow her passions while designing for The Chant.
