NC magnet seniors take on Washington, DC!

As the NC magnet seniors prepared to say goodbye to their graduating class, they embarked on one last trip: Washington, D.C. Throughout four days, the seniors toured influential monuments in the National Mall, visited insightful museums that aligned with their history classes and created final memories during their last fall semester. The Chant wishes the 2026 magnet seniors good luck as they finish out their time at NC.

The senior class began their morning with a tour of the U.S. Supreme Court, which held numerous showcases of original designs of the court and descriptions of different designs throughout history.

The class of 2026 sat to pay tribute at Ford’s Theatre, where assassin John Wilkes Booth shot former president Abraham Lincoln in the suite on the right side of the theatre.

For as long as Pilar Silvera can remember, she has been involved in artistry. Silvera demonstrates immense talent in various forms of art, such as sewing, painting, and ceramics. By participating in various extracurricular activities, Silvera continues to expand her educational journey alongside her creative passion.

Calculus teacher, friend and mentor Deepa Stephen shines brightly for NC students and staff alike. Through her dedication to helping pupils and her involvement in growing students’ spiritual standing, Stephen prepares scholars for the real world, readying them with necessary life skills. To showcase her superb mentorship, Stephen also earned the “Teacher of the Year” title from her colleagues, along with a STAR student recognition.

April 7, 8 and 9, 2026, NC’s unbelievably talented theatre program performed their final musical of the year. “Drowsy Chaperone,” a comedic musical with slightly melancholic undertones, fit the cast and crew perfectly. While the performance went swimmingly, seniors grappled after the fact with the realization that this would stand as their final performance with the NC thespians. After just five weeks to rehearse, the performers put on a show that left the audience wheezing.

With summer break approaching at lightning speed, NC students scramble to finish their last assignments and study for end-of-course tests. Several thoughts linger on the minds of thousands of high schoolers all throughout the country, all revolving around their favorite sunny day activities. As the 2026 school year nears its end, bucket lists flood with new ideas and Pinterest boards fill with pictures of sunsets, pool days and fun crafts as each student ponders their ideal summer days.

A gnarly, high-energy set under a desert moon pushed Katseye into the spotlight as the group’s choreography, vocals and stage presence pulled the audience’s attention at Coachella. Questions around live delivery and crowd impact kept the conversation moving long after the set ended. The performance marked a defining moment as the group stepped onto a global stage and shaped how new audiences viewed their presence moving forward.

Returning for her second year on The Chant and final year at NC, magnet senior Alyssa Mehta is determined to leave a lasting impact on the publication. After a year of growth as a reporter, Mehta is eager to continue crafting stories that spark change and impact her local community. She aims to help The Chant grow by encouraging new perspectives, amplifying student voices and strengthening its presence in the Acworth and Kennesaw community. Mehta hopes to utilize her connections as co-president of the Rally Club and community service chair for Tribal Connections throughout her writing to provide more light to events and organizations at NC. This year, she looks forward to mentoring new staff members, taking on bold stories, and helping The Chant reach new levels.
