December 4, 2025, the day all fans feared, finally arrived. Small forward LeBron James (23) ‘s National Basketball Association (NBA) streak of scoring at least 10 points in his played games came to an end in a gritty win against the Toronto Raptors. Lebron concluded the game with eight points, six rebounds and 11 assists, a bitter revelation to basketball fans nationwide. In a game in which the Los Angeles Lakers played without point guard Luka Doncic (77), LeBron and shooting guard Austin Reaves (15) carried the load, helping the team secure a victory.
Fittingly, LeBron ended his streak by passing the ball to power forward Rui Hachimura (28) for the game-winning three-pointer. Following the game, LeBron stated he did not mind losing his streak and that the true pride comes from executing the right play to succeed. His streak beat the previous leader, shooting guard Michael Jordan’s (23) streak by 431 games. In perspective, the last time LeBron scored under 10 points, the iPhone did not exist yet, and current number one overall pick Cooper Flagg (32) had seen only 15 days of life.
“LeBron’s streak going this long is a moment to remember for everyone. We already knew that he is the picture of longevity, but to have a streak that lasts longer than most people have lived is baffling. I hope that when we look back, we can appreciate what he’s done for the game and the future generations of players,” senior Josh Dahan said.
LeBron’s retirement frequently surfaces in offseason rumors on the internet. With critical fans hoping he calls it quits before he loses his touch of the game, other fans hope he extends his career to the absolute end. LeBron claims he does not wish to play until the metaphorical wheels fall off, but to conclude his career as a beneficial player in a dominant team. Even with the acknowledgement that with the pass to Hachimura, his streak would come to an end, LeBron did not hesitate in putting the team first in an act of selflessness.
“Lebron’s double-digit streak ending felt almost like it was straight out of a story. He didn’t lose out because he played badly, but because he wanted to make the right play. It’s what he’s always been: selfless, considerate and always doing what’s best for his teammates. I know that he might not stay for next season, but it is always good to appreciate what he can still do,” senior Gavin Pinnock said.
With younger and stronger scorers around him, LeBron’s usage as a starter sees a shift toward playmaking rather than putting the ball in the basket. In his last six games, LeBron assisted in over a third of all Lakers possessions. Head coach JJ Reddick acknowledges the age in LeBron’s playstyle of which shifts the team plan to utilize his court IQ and skillfulness rather than his athleticism. Despite missing the entire start of the season due to sciatica, LeBron immediately returned to the team as an integral piece to their playoff hopes.
