While roaming the cafeteria full of tables and booths, prospective students learn about the languages NC offers.

On Thursday October 22, NC held the first Open House for this round of prospective magnet students. The students walked in at around 6:00 PM and volunteers welcomed them into the theatre. Once the students sat down, magnet coordinators David Stephenson and James Auld spoke to them on what they can expect from their four years in the magnet program.

“It is crucial for the youth to see first hand where they will spend their high school career, to walk through the halls, meet the people who are currently experiencing it, and to learn about the highs and the lows of magnet life here at North Cobb,” sophomore Nicholi Moore-Caron said.

After the presentation, parents and students walked around the cafeteria. Multiple stands and tables allowed students to view the various clubs and organizations at NC. Current magnet students guided the families to other presentations and discussed the impact of magnet on their own lives. At the travel presentation, students saw the opportunities offered by the magnet program. Travel coordinator, James Auld, discussed previous and future trips he hopes to take. After the presentation, families walked to the Freshmen Academy, once there, magnet teachers explained their curriculum and what to expect when it comes to homework.

“Everyone was so nice and I loved meeting all the potential families coming to North Cobb. Meeting the girls who signed up for volleyball got me really excited for the next season,” junior volleyball player, Jenna Woodruff, said.

The open house provided a realistic insight into what to expect in the magnet program. Incoming freshmen received information about sports, clubs, and world languages.

Once students apply to magnet, NC invites the accepted bunch to another Open House to receive more detailed information on what to expect from the NC magnet program.
