NC vs. Kennesaw Mountain rivalry runs deep

Emmett Schindler, News editor

As the NC football season comes to a close, one game remains on the regular season schedule. This Friday November 6, the Warriors face off at home against their inner-city rivals, the Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs.

This game counts as the 11th time the two teams face off since their first meeting in 2004. The Warriors won nine of those so far, with the Mustangs winning a modest two. Last year, with the game at Kennesaw Mountain, NC came out victorious winning 34-6 behind former quarterback and current Auburn freshman, Tyler Queen.

Still, the most famous game between the two schools stands the “Civil War Classic.” This marked the first ever football game played at Fifth Third Bank Stadium, now home to the Kennesaw State Owls. The Warriors man-handled the Mustangs in this game, beating them 55-13.

Despite the dominance the Warriors previously showed over the Mustangs, every game starts at 0-0. The Mustangs last beat the Warriors in 2009, 13-0, which took place at Emory Sewell Stadium. This year brings new faces and new game plans, which could result in a new outcome.

Make sure to come out this Friday night at 7:30 PM for the game, and if not, tune in to mixlr.com/thechantbroadcast for Emmett and Adam’s play by play coverage of the game.
