DIY spring cleaning relieves stress

The temptation to slack on deadlines and organization may enter minds while approaching the final months of the school year. Fortunately, these inexpensive spring cleaning DIY’s will motivate you to organize your room, while incorporating chic pastels for a pop of spring color.

DIY #1: Spring Jewelry Holder

A considerable place to start organizing should occur in your most disorderly place. For many, they may start at a jewelry box. Jewelry can easily become tangled and untidy while rushing to school or work in the morning, so try this pastel jewelry holder for an easy-accessible space for earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, and perfume.  

What you will need: (all prices marked before tax)

  1. Metal plate: Dollar Store, $1.00 each
  2. Candle stick holder: Dollar Store, $1.00 each
  3. Plastic bowls (pack of 4): Dollar Store, $1.00
  4. Your choice of pastel spray paint: Home Depot, $5.26 each
  5. Hot glue gun (available at any craft store)

Steps:

  1. Find a safe space to spray paint.
  2. Spray paint each side of the plate and set aside to dry.
  3. While waiting, spray paint glass candle stick holders.
  4. Spray paint plastic bowl as well.
  5. Wait 5 hours to ensure the paint is completely dry.
  6. Heat up your hot glue gun.
  7. Set one plate on the bottom.
  8. Set a glass candle stick holder in the center of the plate.
  9. Hot glue the glass candle stick holder to the plate and continue to glue the next plate on top of the glass candle stick holder.
  10. Hot glue your bowl to the center of the plate.
  11. Enjoy your new jewelry holder!

DIY #2: School Assignment Reminder

The final months of school often mean drowning in deadlines. This simple assignment reminder provides the perfect vessel for preparation.

What you will need: (all prices marked before tax)

  1. Wooden clothespins: Dollar Store, $1.00
  2. Colorful twine: Target, $3.00
  3. Your choice of pastel spray paint: Home Depot, $5.26 each

Steps:

  1. Find a safe space to spray paint.
  2. Spray paint your clothespins.
  3. Allow to dry at least an hour.
  4. Cut your twine to your desired length.
  5. Write your assignments on note cards.
  6. Attach your note cards to your clothespins.
  7. Clothespin note cards to twine.
  8. Hang up in desired spot.
