Hayman, Heart to Heart raise over $2,000
NC Heart to Heart club hosted a charity yard and bake sale in Legacy Park for “To Write Love on Her Arms,” on Saturday, April 16.
Heart to Heart started preparing for the event in January by gathering donations from family, friends, and some businesses who pitched in for a raffle to win a gift card. They brought materials together for the yard sale, such as clothing and furniture, and baked goods included cheesecake cupcakes, numerous types of cookies, and brownies.
The club president, junior Ansley Hayman, organized the event, helping pick the location and seeking out donors and the “To Write Love on Her Arms” non-profit organization.
“‘To Write Love on Her Arms’ is an organization that helps people dealing with depression, addiction, suicide, and self harm. Being an official event, we might end up being on their website,” Hayman said.
The club initially aspired to raise $1,000 in total. They soon surpassed this goal within two hours into the event, and ended up raising a grand total of $2,517.
“The experience was amazing. I myself have struggled with these issues, so seeing love and support literally brought tears to my eyes. We surpassed our goal and I could not be more proud of our club,” Hayman says.
Heart to Heart now sells the leftover baked goods around school, which still goes to “To Write Love on Her Arms.” They meet every first and third Friday of the month in room 611, so stop by if interested.
