Last Friday, Etowah traveled to Emory Sewell Stadium to face off against the NC Warriors. Ranked 72 in the state, the Eagles definitely presented a challenge for the Warriors. Seniors Kevin Johnson (#2), Drew Tejchman (#1) and Jamal Kuku (#5) tackle Etowah running back Tyray Devezin (#5).

NC took on the Etowah Eagles at home on Friday, August 26, pulling out a close 24-20 victory after an explosive Warrior start.
After a false start and a busted rushing play, NC faked a swing pass to senior running back CJ Cole and drilled senior wide receiver Drew Tejchman in his numbers 12 yards downfield. Drew ran untouched 80 yards to the end zone.

The Eagles went three and out on the first drive, and NC took the ball at their own 35 yard line. The Warriors scored three plays later as senior wide receiver and running back Quannie Green took a quick screen 55 yards to the house. Green checked out for the rest of the game after dealing with shin splints the whole week.

Cornerback D’Andre Ferguson (#23) taking down an Etowah quarterback during the third quarter of the game. The Eagles fought long and hard against the Warriors, tying the game in the fourth quarter. However, the Warriors prevailed, winning 24-20.

Etowah put together a long drive on its ensuing possession that resulted in a long touchdown pass to senior safety and receiver Stuart Head, bringing the Eagles within seven points. The Warriors began to lose momentum, but held onto a lead into the half. After a stalled NC drive, the Eagles began to march down the field, but a sack on third and goal forced the Eagles to settle for three points. After a Will Horton field goal, the Eagles kneeled to end the second quarter and enter halftime down 17-10.

Etowah tied the game at 17 after running back Tyray Devezin broke a busted running play for a 76 yard touchdown. NC looked as if it would regain the lead after Tejchman grabbed a jump ball for 41 yards at the Etowah 30 yard-line. The Warriors picked up a key first down, but Lovett and Cole botched a handoff and gave the ball back to the Eagles.

Devezin busted another big yard down to the 15 yard line, but the drive stalled out, leaving Etowah to kick a field goal and go up 20-17. On the next possession, NC drove into Eagle territory by putting the ball on the ground. Cole bounced back from the fumbled handoff to bust a game clinching touchdown and put the Warriors up 24-20.

Etowah failed to continue its next drive, and the Warriors finished the game up by chewing up the clock with a running game the Eagles could not stop. After the Marietta Daily Journal predicted NC to lose, Coach Queen enjoyed the win: “I told you this one was going to be a dogfight, but I told you at halftime I like my dogs a little bit better than theirs.”
