As final exams approach, students configure various study habits to prepare and receive passing grades. NC’s bell schedule will alter December 15 and December 16; the last two days of the semester for efficient testing days. With the proper studying skills, a satisfying grade will come with ease.

With students from all over the county studying at NC, winter break provides a great time for students to spend quality time with family and friends. “I can’t wait for Christmas and break. Finals are almost here too but other than that, I am so ready for time off,” Magnet sophomore Molly Clark said.

Despite the heckling from Brookwood students, which NC athletic director Matt Williams immediately addressed, senior Reed Walker (serving) and freshman Payton Stack (net) fought through a hard match against their opponents, representing their fellow teammates and school. “Watching my teammates play always motivates them. Reed and Payton are amazing players and I’m so happy to have them competing with me. I’m going to miss Reed and all of the other seniors, but I’m confident that Payton and I will maintain the NC tennis legacy,” freshman varsity player Lorenzo Alarcon said.

Coming back from the weekend, students arrived in the computer lab early in the morning, prepared to take their English EOC. All English EOCs take place during either first, third or fourth period, and students receive up to 90 minutes of time to complete their test. The end of course tests measure the student’s knowledge of everything they learned during the semester and usually accounts for a major portion of their grade.

Students who have a low A (90-94%) before taking the final could possibly end up with a B after the final. A single bad score on the final can bring down the student’s entire semester’s worth of hard work, which is why NC should allow their students who meet special requirements an opportunity to exempt finals.

Caring Paws utilizes therapy dogs in order to help children across the nation cope with stress. They hold events at schools during finals, airports to help with the stress of travel, libraries to improve reading confidence, and numerous other locations.

Construction students Justin Taylor and Luis Vargas, both juniors, work on their final for the class: a floor plan of a model home. With only two rooms left to construct, they display their passion and excitement for not only crafting wooden objects, but lasting relationships as well. “It really gave me a sense of leadership and we were able to really help people [other classmates] along the way,” Taylor says.
