Juniors Reagan Beech and Ashley Skaggs received yellow roses from National Honor Society (NHS) as a congratulatory invitation into the club. “NHS will allow us to further become involved in our school and community,” Skaggs said. NHS, an organization that encourages students to become leaders in their communities, distributed roses to new members today in order to formally welcome the new club members. “When the opportunity a-rose, I was thrilled,” Beech said.

NC’s chapter of National Honor Society (NHS) kicked off their second meeting of the year by showing off their blue club t-shirts. The club meets on the first Friday morning of every month and participate in monthly service projects around the community. In September and October, members will assist Horizon Baseball at Kennworth Park to play ball with special needs members in the community. “We’ll rotate about 12 games where we go and help them out, and then next month we’re going to do a clean-up with them,” NHS sponsor Mrs. Tippens said.

Following their annual inductions, NHS members started collecting donations for March of Dimes. The organization raises money to provide affordable care for mothers and their children, fighting for advancements in maternal care and working to reduce the amount of premature births in America. Students who want to donate can find collectors carrying purple buckets marked with the March of Dimes logo.
