Black Student Union (BSU)
BSU creates a safe space for students of any background — not just Black students — to form an in-school community, playing games and discussing important personal topics. With meetings occuring every two weeks, the union organizes several impeccable events each year. The club’s widest-known contribution to NC lies in February, with their famed Black History Month celebration. However, the club celebrates African-American history and heritage year-round, fostering key conversations and representation at NC.
“It really changes from meeting to meeting! Sometimes we have game days or trivia about Black media and sometimes we have personal discussions about mental health in the Black community. [Some of my favorite things about BSU are] the sense of community and amazing opportunity to meet people that you wouldn’t interact with in the day to day,” magnet senior and BSU co-president Mikiyah Spotwood said.
