One month into the school year, a piece of summer returned, with the “Love Island” Reunion premier Monday, August 25. The reunion addressed fans’ unanswered questions, bringing receipts and drama that spiraled outside the villa. Following the episode, fans decided to either support their favorite cast members or finally see their true colors, sparking new debates.
Hosts Ariana Madix and Andy Cohen brought in the final four couples first and attempted to squash tensions between the pairs. The spotlight peered into the lives of Huda Mustafa and Chris Seeley to grasp where their relationship stands after the messy breakup on their final date. Huda believed the relationship seemed fixed and expressed how she felt fine, while Chris still felt uncomfortable sitting across from her even now. Once they expressed how they felt toward each other, Amaya Espinal with Bryan Arenales, Olandria Carthen with Nicolas Vansteenberghe and Iris Kendall with Pepe Garcia described how their relationships continued blossoming outside the villa. Nicolas spoke about his past partner, Cierra Ortega, and explained how he planned on communicating with her. Once out of the villa, he saw the negative posts bashing NicOlandria and decided to leave their relationship in the past.
After the final four described their post-villa lives, Madix introduced Chelley Bissainthe and Ace Greene, along with Clarke Carraway and Taylor Williams. Cohen asked Taylor when he knew he did not feel attraction for Orlandria in Fiji and if he planned on telling her, to which Taylor responded with an apology for not staying fully transparent with her. Even with the public apology, Olandria does not believe they can form any type of relationship, but she forgave him, wanting only to focus on her current relationship.
“While watching the reunion, I kind of wanted to see an apology from Huda to Jeremiah. I believed throughout the entire show she was extremely toxic, and I just wanted to see that closure. The couple I’m really interested in seeing on the screen is Amaya and Bryan because I want to see if all their breakup allegations are true and how strong their coupling is still holding up,” magnet junior Ellie Shields said.
Following a quick break, the hosts introduced the Casa Amor members. A majority of the cast left before any drama, so they did not converse like the others, but one particular member came with speculations to clear up — Coco Watson. She recently went on The What podcast, claiming standoffish behavior from Olandria and a bully mentality from Chelly. Even with the straightforward context of the podcast, Coco attempted to state that what she said was out of perspective, and this sparked an argument between the three that ended with no resolution. Later in the reunion, Ace addressed Jeremiah Brown on the spread narrative that he was a ‘ringleader’ of the rest of the guys in the villa. Unedited footage on one of the dumpings shuts down the said narrative on Ace and ends as quickly as it started, with Jeremiah apologizing.
“Before the reunion came out, I wanted to know how Chelly and Olandria were going to handle the bully speculations against Huda. I personally believed they were bullies at some points in time, but I don’t think they deserved all the bashful comments and racial threats against them. My favorite couple was Taylor and Clarke, even though they received a lot of hate, and I was rooting for them to win, but it didn’t turn out that way due to the favoritism this season,” magnet junior Claire Doucette said.
Once out of the villa, Huda and Olandria remained close until Huda’s stans began dragging the latter on the internet, even resorting to racial memes aimed at her. Outside factors did not dissolve their relationship, but Huda’s not addressing the problem did. Olandria brought the topic up during the reunion, explaining how she refused to shut the narrative down but instead fed into it. The issue remains unresolved as it ended in both raising their voices and crying. At the end of the reunion, Ariana cleared up a viral moment from the show that fans thought captured Cierra screaming about being asked to leave the show. The footage showed that cameras actually captured Huda singing in the women’s dressing room to “Who Says” by Selena Gomez. Overall, the closing episode came out with praising reviews from fans and left shock circulating.
