February 8, the 60th installment of the Super Bowl unfolded in Levi’s Stadium located in San Francisco, California. The highly-anticipated matchup between the Seattle Seahawks (17-3) and the New England Patriots (17-4) included pre-game performances from Coco Jones, Greenday and Charlie Puth. During halftime, global superstar Bad Bunny entertained millions with an unforgettable performance filled with elements of family, culture, vibrant colors and music. An entertaining game of football rewarded the Seahawks’ lockdown defense, dominating the Patriots throughout the game’s entirety. Seattle ultimately earned the coveted Lombardi Trophy, completing their impressive season.
“The halftime show and the entertainment were great. Bad Bunny did a really good job. All of the cameos were really cool, even though I don’t know why Alix Earle was there, but to each their own. My favorite song was ‘Titi Me Pregunto’ because of the catchy energy and how the song set the tone for what the rest of the performance was going to be,” magnet sophomore Zuri Caple said.
The Patriots finished the 2024 season with the worst record in the American Football Conference Eastern Division (AFC East), only winning four games and failing to qualify for the playoffs. During the offseason, the Patriots fired their head coach, Jerod Mayo, and acquired upgrades on both sides of the ball through trades and the draft. New England wrapped a bow on their transaction-filled offseason by hiring former Patriots Linebacker Mike Vrabel as their head coach. Vrabel’s pairing with second-year phenom Drake Maye (10) set in motion a season of success for the former dynasty.
The Seahawks also experienced an offseason filled with changes, specifically on the offensive end. Former Viking’s quarterback Sam Darnold (14) found a home within Seattle, currently on his fifth team since the 2018 draft. The Seahawks also acquired former Super Bowl Most Valuable Player (MVP) Cooper Kupp (10) from the Los Angeles Rams. While an experienced arsenal of talent, Seattle’s head coach, Mike MacDonald, currently stands as the third-youngest head coach in the National Football League (NFL). The Seahawks’ busy offseason provided them a real opportunity to compete in the National Football Conference (NFC) for the 2025-26 season. Throughout the entirety of the NFL regular season, critics and media downplayed the success of both the Patriots and the Seahawks, constantly comparing Darnold’s past playoff failures and Maye’s inexperience.
While the Super Bowl only allows for one winner, the Seahawks proved their utter dominance from start to finish. The Seahawks’ defense shut out the Patriots through the first three quarters of play. In fact, Bad Bunny ran for more yards during his halftime than the Patriots ran for the whole game. The underwhelming offense action ran prevalent through three quarters with both teams leaning on their defense. The first touchdown of Super Bowl LX occurred when Darnold completed a 16 yard touchdown pass to tight end AJ Barner (88), thus sparking an exchange of touchdowns with the Patriots.
Seattle’s defense exploited the inexperience of the Patriots offensive line the whole evening, sacking Maye six times and intercepting him twice. After a game-sealing pick six on Maye, the final whistle sounded, crowning Seattle as Super Bowl Champions for the second time in team history. Additionally, the conversation of Super Bowl MVP commences around the third quarter of play during the Super Bowl. Star running back Kenneth Walker III (9) earned the coveted award after rushing for 135 yards and accounting for 48% of the Seahawks’ offensive yards. While not the MVP, placekicker Jason Myers (5) set a Super Bowl record after scoring five field goals and two extra points on the dominant win.
“I thought that it was the worst Super Bowl that I have ever watched; there was no back and forth. You could tell who was going to win within the first five minutes. Will Campbell played terribly and let all the rushers through. The Seahawks, on the other hand, this was the best they played all season because they had a defensive touchdown and only allowed 13 points,” magnet freshman Myles Evans said.
With the conclusion of the NFL season, Seattle’s offensive coordinator, Klint Kubiak, will depart the Seahawks to step into the role of the Las Vegas Raiders’ head coach. Kubiak will integrate a system that resulted in Seattle at the top of the leaderboard into a young offense set to gain an exciting prospect in April. Other members of both teams will possibly test the waters of free agency, and Seattle owner Jody Allen is working to sell the team she inherited from her brother. Until then, the city home to the 12th man will continue their celebration into the 2026-27 NFL season.
