The Lady Warrior varsity Softball team hosted a regional game against the Hillgrove Hawks on Thursday, September 15. NC beat Hillgrove in seven innings 4-3 and celebrated their Senior Night victory with a ceremony at the end of the game.

Hillgrove commenced the game by batting first without any hits, but the Hawks pitching kept the Warriors off base. At the start of the third inning, the NC warriors changed the tone of the game.

NC’s senior Iman Muhammad put herself in scoring position with a triple in the third inning. Following Muhammad’s hit, senior Mikila Mullen singled, bringing in Muhammad to score, while senior Julie Sanderlin held the score at 2-0 with a 1-2-3 inning.

Hillgrove did not back down with back to back singles in the seventh inning, bringing the score to 3-4.

The energy in the dugout resonated through the bleachers, giving even more reason to how the Lady Warriors brought in the win.

“I think that was by far the best game this team has played. The energy in the dugout and on the field was incredible. We wanted to win more than they did and that’s why we won,” Sanderlin said.

Following the game, the Lady Warriors participated in the Senior Night ceremony. Seniors walked onto the diamond and the school recognized their achievements.

“We will definitely have to make adjustments when they leave but it’s nothing we haven’t done before,” junior Rayna Ezzell said.
