In a flash of 7-year-old creativity, a young Rosalyn Schwanke wrote the first piece she felt truly proud of. In a dotted and lined notebook, with space at the top of each page for a crayon drawing, an undefeatable argument played out–the tooth fairy clearly works harder than Santa Claus–and the writing fair judges agreed. With this newfound critical acclaim under her belt, she realized her love for writing. As a current NC junior, Rosalyn adores The Chant both as a creative outlet and an escape.

When she’s not at her keyboard, Rosalyn can be found thrifting, creating art or listening to a vintage record. As she enters the last half of her high school career, she hopes to make waves as an officer in Key Club, Fashion Club and Beta Club.

Following former President and current President-elect Donald Trump’s win against the Democratic party’s candidate Vice President Kamala Harris, a group of left-leaning women have considered joining forces against the patriarchy with the 4B movement. The feminist movement, which originated in Korea, calls for women to avoid traditional gender roles with four pillars: bihon, bichulsan, biyeonae and bisekseu. Though the movement began before the 2020 pandemic, it has remained relatively unknown until its entry into Western media.

The NC Warriors varsity football team (7-0) entered the playing field October 11 with the autumn sun setting around them and the NC community cheering them on from the stands. The student section, shining with excitement, continued its eager support for the team through each quarter, encouraging the players to a 38-22 win. This homecoming game continued the Warriors’ winning streak as they look forward to a matchup away from home October 18 against the Cherokee Warriors (4-4).

Wednesday, January 17, the Lady Warriors varsity basketball team (12-6) beat the Osborn (1-5) Cardinals in an exciting game. Although inclement weather pushed the game back from the previous day, the unphased Warriors obliterated the Cardinals with ease. Looking forward, the NC team will play against the Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs (2-18) at Kennesaw Mountain High School January 23.

Poor mental health plagues about 1 in 5 American adults. While the severity of these illnesses differs, a sizable fraction of the population will eventually find themselves in need of hospitalization. This hospitalization, among other treatments, holds varying potential to positively impact people who live with mental illness. Unfortunately, patients commonly feel dehumanized, financially burdened and inadequately helped. Realistically, mental hospitals do not cause the issues, rather, the system they operate under holds responsibility and a rational desire for change permeates through patients and professionals alike.

Although much of the public views psychedelic mushrooms as a nefarious, psychosis-driving drug, studies show that therapy using psilocybin, the active ingredient in the substance, may effectively treat several mental illnesses.
