The boys NC Varsity Lacrosse team squared off against the Hillgrove Hawks on Tuesday, March 14, losing 14-4. The loss dropped their record to 4-2 in the season, presenting a pessimistic kickoff to region plays.

With only 20 seconds left in the first quarter, the Hawks tallied four goals, while the warriors only scored one. NC offense failed to execute a gameplan and create the right climate to gain further goals.

“We started slow” and the  coaches cited a concern with off ball movement as Hillgrove consistently limited good passing opportunities for the NC offense,” junior Davis Calandra said.

After a controversial score where NC’s sideline thought the Hillgrove scorer had stepped into the crease, made by the Hawks ten minutes into the second quarter, Hillgrove lead 6-1. Halfway through second, the referee called Hillgrove out for a slash.

During the third quarter, NC pulled out senior Taylor Melton, putting in senior Ethan Borawski goalie. Moore blocked Hillgrove three times to keep the score unchanged, until a foul on NC’s part let Hillgrove score a man up.

With only 11 seconds left on the clock in the third quarter, NC gained their second goal, made by senior Andres Duran, ending the third quarter 11-2.

The fourth quarter started with two great saves from Borawski, rallying up the warriors to make two more goals before the end of the night, ending 14-4.
