Approaching the wrap-up of the 2022-2023 school year, NC families enjoyed their final and most exciting break yet: spring break. The majority of NC families spent April 1 through April 9 relaxing in the comfort of their homes and spending time with their families. Although, with popular vacation destinations in the Sunshine State such as Panama City Beach, Destin, Seaside and Miami, heaps of students and faculty enjoyed their break at the coastline.

A Category 4 hurricane recently left the Southeast in a panicked state. Families grieve the loss of loved ones and their homes. Civilians work to secure a place to stay while the aid struggles to make their way to them because of the damaged roads and bridges. Not only will these families continue to attempt to escape the water, but the ones that make it out must deal with the cost of economic damages.

The news of Hurricane Ian swept the nation shortly after NC released their students for their fall break Friday, September 23. NC families debated on relocating their week-long vacation away from the Sunshine state to avoid a natural disaster. Unfortunately, several Florida families stood at risk as the hurricane took over the land.

As of April 22, Governor Ron DeSantis signed the anti-critical race theory bill in Florida. Formerly known as the Individual Freedom bill, this legislation prohibits the teaching of critical race theory within Florida schools. The Florida Department of Education took extreme measures to ban math books reportedly containing race-related content.
