Lindsay Theaker’s AP English Language and Composition class participates in their first socratic seminar of the semester. “A socratic seminar is a discussion strategy after students have read a particular text,” Theaker said. This offers students a chance to voice their opinions on the assigned reading in a creative environment involving toy soldiers, police officers, and firemen that represent receiving help from peers, asking questions, and answering questions. “It gives an opportunity for students that do not ordinarily speak up a chance to speak out in a really relaxed setting,” Theaker said. “It provides a bit more confidence when everybody has to participate.”
