The Cobb county music department runs everything music for the county. That would include The Cobb Exhibition, a show for all marching bands invited. On the other hand, the LGPE event evaluates concert bands, to assure that students learn the proper curriculum in the classroom. The content learned there, applied to any musical event the band attends, will further their knowledge on music.

Complications inevitably arose for the guest ensembles, who spent the week here performing as part of their large group performance evaluation (LGPE). Although the rain posed a danger to their instruments, the students adapted by rerouting around the courtyard until the weather cleared. Through the efforts of those who contributed, all groups received the opportunity to perform to the best of their abilities.

The NC Band and Orchestra practices one last time before the Orchestra’s Spring Concert tonight; during this practice session, the two groups allowed the Special Education classes to practice on their own instrument. Though the two groups playing together may seem like a recipe for disorganization, they actually worked well together. This chemistry plays a large role in the success of tonight, as while the event itself may not deviate from the norm of their concerts, an additional player in their group must fit in with the group. “This concert is the final concert during the spring for the orchestra, and our full program is orchestra and band playing together. And it has every instrument: all the strings, all the winds, all the percussion. We’re playing a pretty normal program, so 15-20 minutes, and we’ll also be playing with United Sound”, sophomore Patrick Dill said.

Sophomore Hannah Lee studies sheet music for an upcoming performance. A talented violinist, Lee plays in both NC’s chamber orchestra and the Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra (GYSO). “Don’t give up, even though you feel like it’s really hard. Just keep practicing, and your hard work will pay off,” Lee said.
