NC eagerly sent an email to all students, parents and staff members announcing that THE Oprah Winfrey will grace the stage with her presence May 27, 2023, at senior graduation. With NC’s very own Lauren Lee as her great-niece, Oprah voluntarily decided that she will deliver a quick, intellectual and productive commencement speech as the seniors step into the real world.

With time dwindling until graduation, seniors tend to suffer from horrendous cases of senioritis. This entails students losing motivation to pay attention, participate in school events and complete basic tasks. However, mechanisms to maintain the minimal amounts of ambition they do possess certainly exist.

After a chaotic two years, the senior class of 2022 finally reunited in person for their final year of high school. The students will all look back on their high school years fondly and reminisce on the great memories that NC provided. “One of my favorite memories from school is having classroom debates and discussions with some of my favorite teachers. I loved hearing everyones opinions and being able to make connections with other students,” senior Maddy Nomura said.

With summer approaching and under three months until graduation, NC seniors collect caps and gowns for graduation in the PAC. Teachers and peers congratulate them, sharing mixed feelings about leaving NC. “Thank you to everyone that helped me get to this point in life, you deserve the world. For everyone who envy’s me, find peace in life. You wont get far with a negative mindset,” senior Joshua Josephs said.

Everyone contains their own limits regarding how much energy they can put into a task before they overwork themselves and fall short of their goals. For a generous amount of students, this energy runs out senior year, right before they graduate and reach adulthood. The negative mindset results in poor grades and a foul mood. However, numerous solutions can allow seniors to finish out their senior year stress-free.

Senioritis finally spreads to NC students

The annual Magnet Convocation took place Saturday, May 22 in the NC Arena. Seniors enjoyed an intimate gathering with family, friends, and the NC Magnet family as their time as an NC Magnet student came to a close. Speakers shared words of wisdom, students expressed magnitudes of gratitude, and all reflected on the last four years at NC.

This season, Van became the second-highest vaulter to ever jump at NC and made third place at the county meet. Once graduating, she will attend the University of Mississippi to study Kinesiology.
