Fatima Elfakahany is a junior in high school and…something…for The Chant. She is in Model UN, Debate, and Beta Club. Her favorite sport is soccer simply because it’s the greatest game in the world. She loves reading any and everything and enjoys writing just for pleasure whenever an idea comes to mind. Sleeping is one of her best friends, although they usually don’t have much contact during the school year, which is really very sad. Traveling, in her opinion, is one of her favorite things to do, because it’s like being in a book. In her free time she likes to hang out with her friends doing random things, spend time with her family and her three cats, and, of course, read. To be honest, she doesn’t know who she is and stuff, but that’s okay because she’s a teenager and that’s what teenagers do.

In honor of October as National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, NC changed the usual orange-out Friday to a pink out today. Relay 4 Life spent the past couple weeks selling “We Are Pink” shirts for students to wear. “I wore three sparkly ribbons for the people I knew who had breast cancer that died, and the other three are for those who had breast cancer and are still living,” said senior Ashton Husbands, wearing her We Are Pink shirt. “I’m really happy for the pink out day, because it’s extremely important to me.”

Upcoming dates include Scripps College at 8:30 am and Pace Academy at 2:15 pm on August 31st. “I think it’s a really good opportunity to discover colleges without missing a lot of school,” said DeLaMater. “A lot of people can benefit from this type of system.”

The Chant staff received a silver crown from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association last Friday, a prestigious honor. NC was one of 10 to be considered for the award out of thousands of applicants. “I’m so incredibly proud of our staff and what they’ve been able to accomplish in... less than a semester,” said Newspaper adviser Ms. Kovel. “I think all of the ridiculously hard work and time and effort that everyone put into creating dynamic stories...has made such a difference, and I know all of my students must be incredibly proud of themselves for all of that hard work.”

On her way back to class, junior Riley Swab stops by the Future Shop to take a look over the numerous college pamphlets and folders that NC placed there. “There’s a lot of colleges that I’ve gotten information about that I probably wouldn’t have looked up,” she said. “It’s just easier to drop by and get information so I think it’s cool North Cobb has this.” NC will be hosting a college visit from Shorter University tomorrow, March 10.
