Tuesday night, January 24 spotlighted the match between NC’s varsity boys basketball team (16-3) and the Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs (11-9) for their 19th game of the season. A fast pace and adequate defense from both teams finalized a close 44-40 score, adding to NC’s win streak of three consecutive wins. NC faces the Wheeler Wildcats (12-6) January 27 on the Wildcats’ court with hopes of redeeming themselves after the Wildcats reigned superior at their previous match-up against NC January 10 with a final score of 54-58.

NC junior Soleil Smith and freshman Leah Byrd (9) added pressure to the Walton Raiders offense by not allowing anyone to score. Byrd controlled defense the whole night, leading the team to victory and securing the Lady Warriors’ spot in playoffs. Up next, the Warriors will face the Kennesaw Mountain Mustangs Thursday, October 6 at home.

To kick off the 2022 varsity football season, the Warriors versed the 2021 7A region state champions, The Collins Hill High School Eagles. With the scrimmage hosted at home, students and fans gathered in NC’s bleachers to support the Warrior’s first Friday night lights since the victorious spring game in May. Confidently, the Warriors won the scrimmage with a score of 41-0. They will continue to improve for next weeks match taking place at Buford High School.

The Warriors boys varsity lacrosse team entered the field after their fall pre-season ended in November 2021. A total of 12 seniors occupied last years 2021 spring season. Their graduation caused a major setback for the Warriors. Nonetheless, coaches and players remain confident for this season. Current seniors, like Braden Coats, remain positive playing their final season at NC.

Senior forward captain Alex Acosta (35) ran the court at NC’s first region game Tuesday right alongside junior forward Terrell Reeves (30). Acosta started off the 2021-22 season playing his 3rd and final varsity season with the NC Warriors as the lone senior on the team. Acosta motivates his team before games, getting them hyped in the locker room and preparing them to have fun and to stay positive when playing.

NC defensive star Joshua Josephs chose Tennessee over several other power five schools due to the friendliness of the coaching staff and the vision that the program sees for his future. Josephs almost committed to Michigan and Kentucky within the last year, but chose to make a few additional visits to several schools. Upon arrival in Knoxville, Josephs felt like the SEC powerhouse correlated with his personality, and finally made his decision.

Sophomore athlete David Eziomume (18) takes a handoff as senior offensive lineman Joshua Bagley (60) and junior offensive lineman Marselle Felton (63) block. Eziomume received the start at quarterback for this week’s game against North Paulding. Eziomume took the offense the length of the field on the opening drive, but did not score as the Wolfpack stopped the Warriors at the two-yard line. The Warriors ended up winning 12-7 with great efforts by Eziomume and freshman quarterback Nick Grimstead.

The Warriors entered Friday night with a 6-1 record, while the Hawks arrived with a 1-6 record. The Warriors dominated the 3AAAAAAAA region a year prior and so far earned a 3-0 start to 2021 region play. NC will travel to an away game on October 29 against the Marietta Blue Devils, come out and support our Warriors.

Following a disappointing loss at Harrison High School on March 16, the Warriors redeemed themselves in a blowout game against the Marietta Blue Devils. The impressive offense and skillful defense throughout the night allowed the Warriors to end with a score of 6-1. A mix of both underclassmen and upperclassmen play allowed the Warriors to earn an important region win.

Despite the odds, the NC varsity Warriors charged onto the field valiantly excited to honor their school and their peers. The Warriors overcame the Wolves while improving their skills in the first home game of the season by winning against one of the highest-ranked teams in Georgia. “I am just really proud of our kids to come in here and play the way we did like that was very impressive. They are the winningest team in the last 20 years in the state of Georgia. They have lost 17 games in 17 years,” Queen said.

NC Warrior tennis team travels to Campbell highschool tonight to take on the Spartans. After a tough loss before winter break, the team eagerly awaits to face off against their opponents hoping to bring home a win. “I cant wait to play tonight, I love playing alongside my teammates and learning from them,” sophomore Lorenzo Alcaron said.

With students from both NC and Georgia Tech coming together to dance for the kids, they raised over $3,000 that will entirely go to CHOA. Through their dancing and fundraising, new friendships were made between high school and college students as they collectively worked towards helping children in need.
