Jessica Joachim is a senior at North Cobb and is the News Editor on the journalism staff. Jessica is in the magnet program and balances clubs, schoolwork, and various after school activities. She is very passionate about writing and allowing readers to see things from her perspective. She has also developed an affinity for photography and taking videos as she learns her way around a camera.
Jessica loves to cook and bake in her free time. On Sundays, she enjoys working with the children at her church and planning events for her youth group. During breaks, she likes traveling and exploring new places and cultures. She hopes to travel more when she is older and go to more countries.
Jessica will attend a university most likely in state and possibly move out-of-state in the future. Jessica is not entirely sure about what she wants to pursue as a career when she gets older, but her interests include journalism, business, and medicine.

Cobb County sprung into the spring season as they kicked off their semi-annual book sale on March 15, 16, and 17. The sale’s commencement attracted bookworms of all ages through its wide array of book selections.
The event, held at the Cobb County Civic center, took place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Shoppers excitedly entered the center with reusable bags and boxes, ready to fill them up with new tales. The building held a plethora of books, taking up spaces on the first and second floors. The alphabetically organized books made shopping manageable as bookworms scavenged through their favorite authors.
“[The Book Sale is] more than a large venue full of books and bargain hunters from the Cobb community and far beyond, the Book Sale brings people together with a tremendous sense of community spirit and unity,” Cobb Library Director Helen Poyer said.
Beyond the books, the building also held magazines, VHSs, CDs, and records. The affordable prices compelled patrons to fill their boxes to the rim and pack their cars full.
“I enjoy how excited everyone is to come in and find books and media. It gives our patrons [a] way to find homes for their books and donate to us [as] they are repurchased. We also have a place to send dated library books which are no longer relevant in our collections. It is a win for all of us. A lot of homeschool families get basic supplies for their children at these sales,” program coordinator Patty Latch said.
The event depleted the building of its media, and through incorporating various deals, sent shoppers off with new adventure-filled companions. In addition to leaving the event with cases of books, shoppers left knowing that their purchases will contribute to the libraries of the Cobb County Public Library System and will place books into the hands of those awaiting knowledge.
