A senior in North Cobb’s Magnet Program, Tara Anastasoff loves to learn new things, make connections with people, and shop for stationary supplies. When she is not doing homework in a coffee shop or hanging out with her friends, she can be found hostessing at a Mexican restaurant, where she has picked up an important life skill: making balloon animals. While Tara loves being outside and socializing with people, she also loves having alone time and watching cheesy rom-coms. She recently took an interest in film photography, and enjoys shooting on film cameras, disposable cameras, Polaroid cameras, and digital cameras. As a result of this passion, she also currently has 30,000 photos in her camera roll. Tara adores fashion and always looks forward to going to the thrift store with her friends. Her favorite thrifted item is a cozy brown and khaki flannel— a perfect autumn staple. She likes the sunshine, but she loves the cooler temperatures and comfort that the fall air brings. In her free time, which she doesn’t get a lot of between balancing schoolwork and friends, she listens to music (literally anything but country) and dances in her room. This is Tara’s third year on The Chant and second year as Editor-in-Chief, and she looks forward to making this year of The Chant the most exciting and engaging it’s ever been.

A fresh pizza crust, container of juicy mandarin oranges, and a half full carton of chocolate milk—all perfectly edible—sit at the bottom of the trash can at the beginning of B lunch. What’s with all the waste?

I’m not going to eat it; just throw it away.

While students anxiously look forward to Music Midtown in September, there are still smaller festivals in the spring and summer season that they can attend and enjoy. “Music Midtown was such an experience, I want to go back already,” junior Ashley Skaggs said.

As a recent football commit to Point University, a private Christian institution, senior Will Aldridge excitedly awaits his next four-year journey. Originally an NC soccer player for three years, he joined the football team his senior year. “Before football games, I always write a Bible verse somewhere on my arm. The team walks out together and we all huddle around the field goal and pray, and then after that I say my own prayer and just thank Him for every opportunity I have and the opportunity to present myself in the game,” Aldridge said.

Concluding its five-stop tour around art museums in North America, Yayoi Kusama’s “Infinity Mirrors” exhibit ended at Atlanta’s High Museum of Art on February 17, 2019. Stepping off the elevator and into the exhibit, visitors came face-to-face with an eye-catching sculpture garden of uniquely-shaped objects in front of multiple canvases of vibrant paintings. From start to finish, the sculptures and paintings left art-lovers inspired and in awe.

Sexual assault continues to exist as a hot topic in both local and national media. Despite its continuing presence on college campuses and high-density cities, people often disregard its lasting effects on an individual.

NC seniors Reed Walker, Ryan Camesa, and Christine Call utilize the community's public facilities to study for their upcoming finals and complete homework. "I think this is a great place to study because it's a productive working environment, especially the Quiet Zone. It just really allows me to focus and thrive academically, especially during finals," Camesa said.

In honor of the Twin Day dress-up day for Red Ribbon Week, the math department all decided to dress up like Prinicpal Moody. With his signature suit and tie and slicked back hair, each teacher nailed his look perfectly. "A few years ago, about six of us dressed up as David Bell. We just think it's funny to dress up as someone who's locally famous," math teacher Ms. Aldridge said.

After two months of anticipation, students received their school ID cards during homeroom today. While the underclassmen's photos will appear in the yearbook, the photographers allowed the seniors to dress in silly attire for their IDs. Senior Isabella Keaton resembled a young child and chose to put her hair into pigtails and hold up a stuffed animal for her photo. Senior Esteban Alarcon kept his photo simple, with a fitted black t-shirt and a half smile. Senior Tara Anastasoff recreated her Kindergarten yearbook photo, choosing to wear a leopard print vest and fake bangs to perfectly replicate her younger self.

As Principal Moody takes on his new role, he holds the Warrior Nation to high standards. “I’d like to see more student inquiry, that’s my big catch phrase, just having students inquire the ‘why’ about the lesson, not just copying down notes. Another phrase I like to refer to is was the lesson about you guys as a student discovery or was it just a delivery of information? I think our teachers have really embraced ways to activate those higher levels of learning, I'm excited about what I’ve seen so far,” Moody said.

With a $50 clipped to her blouse, senior Malaysia Rucker's friends sang her "Happy Birthday" to celebrate her 18th birthday. "I'm most excited that I have a lot more opportunities open to me job-wise and I'm so excited to graduate this December," Rucker said. Later tonight, her friends will bring her to a surprise dinner in Atlanta and the group will head to King of Pops for dessert.

Students happily enjoyed their first three hour school day of the semester. These county-wide half days emerged last year, allowing teachers time to meet with other educators in the area and discuss lesson plans and test scores. While teachers stayed after the last bell rang at 11:30, students used the extra time to catch up on homework, take a nap, or hang out with friends.

Seniors Claire Vance and Claire Phillips measured a toy car's speed and velocity for Ms. Brennan's Physics class. Physics students complete a wide range of projects throughout the year, but this project stands as a class favorite. "I feel like this is a very hands-on activity and gives us a visual perspective of how things we do in class act out in real life," Vance said.

The custodians created a barricade outside of the girls' bathroom in the 600 hallway using a ladder, trash can, hose, mop, and bucket to stop people from coming inside. The restroom, currently closed for maintenance, will reopen shortly.
