Rose Ordonio, a junior at NC, is a new member of The Chant. She joined to have an outlet for her love of writing. She enjoys plants and is involved in her school’s greenhouse club. Outside of school, she loves watching her favorite dramas, going to get boba with her friends, and watching games from her hometown baseball team, the Atlanta Braves. She loves being involved in social movements and her strong opinions. Her hope is to have a career where she can share those interests and continue to write in a big city.

Fashion Club makes its debut to become a part of the NC club scene. Through its new beginnings, the club already plans innovative ideas to instill itself in the school community. Created by club president senior Ryan Brown, Fashion Club fosters an environment where students can convene to discuss their chic interests and a place to pursue their career paths. Through addressing topics of the fashion industry and inspiration from other NC clubs, the Fashion Club’s new mission focuses on creating a fashion show to shine a light on a growing issue in the creative industry: sustainability.

Movies portraying the immigrant mother and daughter pair make their way into popular culture through films like “Everything Everywhere All At Once” and also through underground films like “Beba.“ Different relationship aspects illustrate it on the big screen while audiences can identify themselves with the characters. Allowing the representation of a complex relationship between an immigrant mother and daughter can change the dynamic positively by bringing difficult topics to light. Through the tension and heartwarming scenes, audiences can feel a sense of understanding and respect for both sides of the relationship.

US and China relations now become increasingly shaky as the highly anticipated meeting with Chinese officials and US Secretary of State Antony Bliken became abruptly postponed. Leading up to the days before shooting it down, Biden and his defense officials met to strategically and safely take the balloon down. This response faces backlash, particularly from Republicans; China condemns the US for the decision to shoot the balloon down.

January 3, the 118th congress started off the New Year struggling to find a new Speaker of the House. After an astonishing four days and 15 ballots later, the House swore in the leader of the Republican Conference, Representative Kevin McCarthy. This event became historic, serving as the first time a vote for the speaker exceeded one ballot. During the ensuing days of the speaker bid, opposition from Pro-Trump Republicans prevented McCarthy from receiving enough votes from the already slim Republican-majority House. Now, newly sworn-in McCarthy faces opposition to his efforts to pass a new rule package.

The use of marketing tactics that emphasize the secrecy of periods and negative portrayal of the menstrual process can affect the attitudes towards the natural process. Several studies also uncovered a series of consistent themes within period product advertisements that reinforce the idea of women staying at home instead of going out to public spaces when on their cycle. These negative attitudes can involve other issues related to the stigma of menstruation, such as period poverty and the shame of asking for health services, causing a detrimental gap of awareness for the opposite sex, and even women.

Leaks in the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines turned up after recorded activity consistent with explosions. These leaks come as Europe faces an energy crisis within the Russian and Ukraine conflict and pressure for energy demand in the future. The catastrophic environmental impact of the leaks also contributes to the growing issue of climate change. The pipelines supplied natural gas all over Europe but stopped in August after months of gas reduction from Russia’s state-controlled company, Gazprom, cut off supply. The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) brought the speculation of sabotage. While no government formally blames any parties, talks of Russias involvement as the cause speculates around Europe.

Thursday, September 1, a team from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) assessed the condition of Europe’s biggest nuclear power plant, Zaporizhzhia. The plant provides electricity to more than half of Ukrainians and other countries in Europe. The Russian-controlled site experienced concerns over the lack of safety measures due to fighting. A report published September 5 by the IAEA explained the destruction of crucial structures in the plant could lead to a nuclear disaster. The report urges both Ukraine and Russia to demilitarize the site to prevent a dangerous nuclear situation.

The store also offers a fun and unique experience, allowing customers to test out their products and provide various spots to take aesthetic pictures.
