Rose Ordonio, a senior at NC, is a returning member of The Chant. She hopes to continue writing about developing topics around the world, showcase her opinions and get involved in the Kennesaw community. She enjoys plants and is involved in NC’s environmental clubs. Outside of school, she loves watching her favorite dramas, going out with her friends, and watching games from her hometown baseball team: the Atlanta Braves. Ordonio plans to study public relations in college and pursue journalism.

Recently, TikTok user Jourdan Johnson created an effect named “Filter for Good”, and she donated the revenue from users posting themselves with the effect to a charity that brings aid to people in Gaza. Through TikTok’s Effect Creator Rewards Program, filter creators can now profit off of their filter’s popularity. Creators have found the program as a way to help people around the world who experience humanitarian crises by donating their profits to charities.

The COVID-era Title 42 came to an end Thursday, May 11. Since 2020, the act has turned migrants away  2.8 million times at the border according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Earlier efforts to end Title 42 by the Biden administration received pushback from Republican opposition, allowing the enforcement of the policy to extend from Trump to the present administration. The policy faced backlash from immigrant rights groups for months, citing the policy's discrimination toward Latin American countries.

As the world evolves, baseball, America’s pastime, experiences change in the sport’s culture. Increasing emotional celebrations and breaking unwritten rules create debates about what the sport should allow. Backlash can come in the form of comments from players in the league or physical payback through intentionally hitting batters or bench clearing events. New marketing encourages players to show personality in the game arise and new rule changes provide audiences with exciting moments to come. Even as debates occur over modern practices, defining celebrations and emotional players remains important, especially when making their way into baseball history and providing fans with an exciting experience.
